In the article the author asks how to read and understand Nietzsche's work correctly. A basic framework for this question is circumscribed by existing styles of reception, evaluation of Nietzsche's testimony, and confrontation of his methodological consciousness and intention with the methodological consciousness of contemporary scholars. In conclusion, though there is not the only unfailing method to read and understand Nietzsche 'correctly', some styles of reading seem to be more acceptable than others. On the one hand, we should not neglect the structure of his work, but on the other, in order to defend the autonomy of interpretation, we should avoid blind following the style of reading, as is suggested by Nietzsche himself.

Abstract In his essay The Hermeneutic Function of Distance Paul Ricoeur describes the fundamental concepts of theory of language and text. He criticizes some thesis of Hans Georg Gadamer, but also refers to the notion of “game”, which is essential to Gadamer’s philosophical hermeneutics. That gives a chance to interpret Ricoeur’s essay through category of “game” as a basis of human activity. The Hermeneutic Function of Distance has two sources: hermeneutics and structuralism, which is already visible in the nivel of words used by Ricoeur (understanding, disclosure of world, but on the other hand: structure or system). There we can find a possibility of use the notion of “game” in interpreting Ricoeur’s essay: the game is a combination of accident (every move in game) and necessity (rules, conventiones), of system and player’s free will. Ricoeur recognizes the distance, which is fundamental mark of the discourse, as the dialectics of event and meaning: the meaning actualizes itself in the event, and event becomes fill of meaning. In this way the language constitutes it’s reference to the world. Using the notion of “game”, as Gadamer did, one can say, that the world is disclosed through language in the area of self-presenting game. Moreover, being the medium of every experience and every understanding game makes possible to distinguish what is already known and what stays outside the game and needs to be understood. According to Ricoeur the same process appears in the creation and perception of literary works. Both author and lector are the players of this special game, which constitutes the basic relation, questioned by Derrida, between the sender and the receiver of text. At the same time, the literary work loses the reference of the first degree and profit by other reference – to Lebenswelt, the area of literary game. The game-text, through it’s self-presenting activity, attains to predominate over the consciousness of lector and makes possible to experience a text. The basic condition of this process is the distance between the real-self and the player’s-self, the fundamental distance of every communication.

The paper presents the importance of the category of contemplation applied by Marian Maciejewski in his work: mickiewiczowskie «czucia wieczności». (czas i przestrzeń w liryce lozańskiej) [Mickiewicz’s “Premonitions of Eternity”. Time and Space in the Losanne lyrics]. This category has turned out to be important from the perspective of the axiological dimension of literary genres. Moreover, as seen also in earlier works of Maciejewski, it is the category different from the aesthetic ones. Maciejewski assesses that contemplation is a pre-textual category and has hierarchical features in hermeneutics.

The article is devoted to the development of the understanding of the concept of state sovereignty from the initial period of its inception to the present time. Author’s aim is to highlight the dynamics in the understanding of this concept, which proves the notion of its continuous hermeneutic adaptation to the new social conditions. The concept of sovereignty can not be understood as a static concept, which did not change its content and definition over the years. The internal dimension of sovereignty is weakened by the development of the democratization of society, searching for legitimate sources of power, promoting the concept of substantive constitutional state. The external dimension is then modified in the context of deepening international cooperation and integration, with the creation of international rules for dispute resolution and the creation of integration groupings. The author responds to the current call for the federalization of the European Union (Speech by President of the European Commission Mr Barroso’s On the State of the Union 2012 presented in the European Parliament 12 September 2012), which opens the debate over disappearing sovereignty of the Member States of the European Union again. He points to the need for the open understanding of the concept, which allows us to create harmony between ambition of the supranational entity and interests of its basic units - the Member States.

The article deals with the question of how the contemporary postmodernist world view relates to the “mainstream” of Adventist theology – i.e. a movement which directly follows the modernist world view of the founders of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church. It critically analyses the deconstruction of evangelical theology in the works of the Adventist philosopher Fernando Canale. This deconstruction aims at redefining the macro-hermeneutic approach of Adventist theology on the basis of God’s temporality. Finally, the article demonstrates the impact of this understanding on Adventist orthopraxy.

Artykuł jest nawiązaniem do studium Łukasza Afeltowicza i Krzysztofa Pietrowicza Koniec socjologii, jaką znamy, czyli o maszynach społecznych i inżynierii socjologicznej („Studia Socjologiczne”, 3/190: 43–79 z 2008 roku).

This paper refers to the study by L. Afeltowicz and K. Pietrowicz published in 'Studia Socjologiczne' (3/190: 43-79). The issues touched upon by its Authors have gained substantial significance nowadays, which is the reason to consider it worthwhile to refer to them. The author critically takes up the question whether sociologists should design artificial social experiments and implant them into the existing social reality. The possible results include reproducing in artificial conditions certain natural social phenomena and/or introducing certain others which do not exist in the social reality in question.
