The article presents the history of 'Onomastica' - publication and editorial changes (changes in the composition of the editorial staff), but also changes in contents, that have taken place over the course of 50 years. The periodical was dedicated to personal and geographic names, but currently also contains compilations on other proper nouns. Printed in 'Onomastica' are articles by onomasticians, both from Poland and abroad, in their native languages. In addition to articles with rich onomastic material there are also theoretical and methodological studies. Onomastic literature is represented in larger and larger numbers. The periodical contains three sections: articles, reviews, and the state of research. In the review section are reviews of the most valuable works; in the state of research is information on the most important scholarly events in the field of onomastics. In the ranking of Polish linguistic periodicals 'Onomastica' is in first place.
