The hospital provostry in Zamosc functioned formally in the 18th c. It united two hospitals which were under the authority of the Zamosc chapter, headed by a mitred dean. The institution, together with several others of the type which worked in the town, gave shelter to several dozen poor and homeless people. The Zamosc provostry was endowed with a substantial property; nevertheless it constantly faced financial problems, mostly because of unscrupulous debtors. It was only due to the efforts of the provosts (especially Olszówka and Dabkowski) that it was able to fulfil its role properly. It ceased to work at the end of the 18th c due to financial difficulties as well as to the adverse policy of the occupation authorities. The same happened to many hospitals all over the country at that time.

The object of the paper is to interpret the provisions regulating the procedure of health-resort tax collection in an unambiguous manner. In the first part, the author discusses legal acts related to the visitor's tax. Next, the concept of a 'hospital' is analysed, and discrepancies regarding the interpretation of the said notion are indicated. The subsequent part concentrates on the statutory exemption from the local tax pursuant to the decisions of administrative courts and the opinions of the Ministry of Finance, the Patients' Rights Commissioner, the Head of the Inspectorate of the Military Health Service and health-resort tax collectors. Finally, the paper presents incorrect implementation of the provisions related to the health-resort tax by the tax authorities, and indicates actions to the detriment of the taxable persons. The author considers the illustrated state of affairs unacceptable and requests a definite and uniform regulation thereof.

The study explores the relationships between decision-making styles in hospital nurses and their attachment styles in adulthood as well as the possible mediation of these associations by self-regulation. It is based on the assumption that attachment styles, defined as mental working models of self and others, affect the decision-making process in nurses, whose profession includes frequent interaction with other people. The research sample included 161 nurses from the Children’s University Hospital in Bratislava, Slovakia. Attachment styles were measured by the Relationship Questionnaire, self-regulation by the Self-regulation Scale, and decision-making styles by the Melbourne Decision Making Questionnaire. Correlation analysis showed that two insecure attachment styles (anxious-preoccupied and fearful-avoidant) correlated positively with the preference of maladaptive decision-making styles (hypervigilance, buck-passing and procrastination). Mediation analysis revealed that these relationships are mediated by self-regulation, which means that the effect of attachment styles on decision-making styles might be carried by self-regulation ability. The results point to the role that attachment might play in the specific context of nursing.

In the nineteenth century, the state of medical knowledge, also in Prussia changed tremendously. There was a great advancement of gynecology, which became a university subject. Moreover, a number of state obstetrics schools came into being, replacing the midwife-amateur. Some attempts of more human treatment of patients with mental illnesses were made; however, knowledge in this field was rather remote. The 18th and 19th c. gripe were epidemics such as smallpox, measles, fever, typhoid, cholera, tuberculosis, dysentery, which still collected massive harvest at that time. Syphilis was a significant problem, especially in the army. The improvement in the treatment of smallpox occurred only after the introduction of compulsory vaccination. The emergence of antiseptics and anesthesia was the great innovation of the nineteenth century. This allows the vast decreased in maternal mortality. Until the end of the century the mortality rate was very high, and human life short. The number of physicians increased, but there were still few and still they were an urban phenomenon. In 1849 in Prussia, 80% of 5595 doctors lived in cities, much more in eastern than western provinces. In the rural areas, due to the absence of doctors, healers, religious and folk medicine were of great significance. For the first time idea of the modern hospital appeared in the eighteen century, in the nineteenth century it became a mass phenomenon. Since the eighteenth century there was a much vaster structure of state administration with the Ministry of Health at the helm, including a city and county doctors. Gradually significant improvement in the quality of food at lower layers decreased the incidence and improved quality of life. Fertilization increased yields, the growth of potatoes became prevalence, sugar beet, grown up cattle and increased intake of meat. The meat started to be froze. Along with it and the popularization of the rail, the area's affected by hunger were more easily resured by fast shipment and export over long distances.

Challenging the main reports that see corruption as an evil to eradicate in Ukraine, this article proposes that it would be beneficial to analyze and treat petty corruption that helps people to survive rather than enrich citizens, within the framework of gift exchange proposed by Marcel Mauss. To do so, this paper thus focuses on the three alleged most ‘corrupted' places in Ukraine: a university, a hospital, and a police control post, in order to develop a detailed analysis of the meanings of these transactions. Furthermore, it examines the particular role that social actors take within these arrangements to propose the recognition of a grey zone between corruptions as evident in the examples analyzed over the course of the paper.
