The article describes the teaching of Ildefonsus of Toledo on the person of Jesus Christ and his salvific work. The study is based on two writings of the Bishop of Toledo: Do cognitione baptismi and De itinere deserti, in which he conveyed his instruction on the sacrament of baptism. In holy baptism each man, thanks to the passion and resurrection of Christ, receives new life. It can be given to man only by God Himself. Therefore, Ildefonsus emphasizes the truth of the divinty of Jesus Christ, discusses his salvific work and points to the continuing presence of Christ in the life of all the baptized. Jesus Christ grants his prevenient grace to all the baptized, supports them with all the necessary gifts, sets them an example of a life lived in accordance to the will of God the Father. He does all this to lead them to the joy of eternal life. Ildefonsus of Toledo bases his preaching on the Scripture, referring mostly to the texts of the Old Testament and the teaching of St. Paul.

W artykule zostało omówione nauczanie Ildefonsa z Toledo na temat osoby Jezusa Chrystusa i jego zbawczego dzieła. Podstawą przedstawionego opracowania były dwa dzieła biskupa Toledo Do cognitione baptismi i De itinere deserti, w których zawarł on pouczenia dotyczące sakramentu chrztu. W chrzcie świętym każdy człowiek dzięki męce i zmartwychwstaniu Chrystusa otrzymuje nowe życie. Może je człowiekowi ofiarować jedynie sam Bóg. Ildefons podkreśla więc prawdę o bóstwie Jezusa Chrystusa, omawia Jego zbawcze dzieło i wskazuje na nieustanną obecność Chrystusa w życiu wszystkich ochrzczonych. Jezus Chrystus obdarza ochrzczony swoją uprzedzającą łaską, wspiera ich wszelkimi potrzebnymi darami, daje im przykład życia zgodne z wolą Boga Ojca. Wszystko to czyni po to, aby doprowadzić ich do radości życia wiecznego. Ildefons z Toledo opiera swoje nauczanie na Piśmie Świętym, odwołując się przede wszystkim do tekstów Starego Testamentu i nauczania św. Pawła.

The article discusses the teaching of Ildefonsus of Toledo on Mary based on the work De virginitate Sanctae Mariae. The author of the work focuses primarily on showing Mary’s virginity and Her virginal motherhood. He points out that Mary, as chosen by God to participate in the work of man’s salvation, enjoys exceptional graces, among which he mentions in the first place her immaculacy, that is, freedom from sin. In his argument about the eternal virginity of Mary, Ildefonsus refers to texts from the Holy Scripture, and also to prophecies recorded in the Old Testament. Acharacteristic feature of the work is the interweaving of theological reflection with the texts of prayers that the Bishop of Toledo addresses to Mary. Their content expresses the desire to surrender oneself completely as a slave to Mary. In this way, Ildefonsus introduced a new kind of Marian devotion to the asceticism of the Latin Church. In the whole work, Mary is presented as the one who leads man to Christ.

W artykule zostało omówione nauczanie Ildefonsa z Toledo na temat Maryi na podstawie dzieła De virginitate Sanctae Mariae. Autor dzieła skupia się przede wszystkim na ukazaniu dziewictwa Maryi oraz Jej dziewiczego macierzyństwa. Wskazuje, że Maryja, jako wybrana przez Boga do udziału w dziele zbawienia człowieka, cieszy się wyjątkowymi łaskami, spośród ktorych na pierwszym miejscu wymienia Jej nieskazitelność, czyli wolność od grzechu. W swojej argumentacji o wiecznym dziewictwie Maryi Ildefons odwołuje się do tekstów z Pisma Świętego, także do proroctw zapisanych w Starym Testamencie. Cechą charakterystyczną dzieła jest przeplatanie się refleksji teologicznej z tekstami modlitw, które biskup Toledo kieruje do Maryi. Ich treść wyraża pragnienie całkowitego oddania się Maryi w niewolę. W ten sposób Ildefons wprowadził do ascetyki Kościoła łacińskiego nowy rodzaj pobożności maryjnej. W całym dziele Maryja ukazana jest jako ta, która prowadzi człowieka do Chrystusa.

Celebration of the sacrament of baptism in the Hispanic-Mozarabic Rite, as in other liturgical families, was preceded by a period of the catechumenate to which the candidates were introduced by the special rite celebrated on Sunday in vicesima. This article analyzes the course of the celebration of the sacraments of initiation according to the norms from a revised rite and with reference to the earlier tradition reflected in the Liber Ordinum and Antiphonary of Leon. It explains the Visigoths’ practice of single immersion in water during the administration of the sacrament and various other rites, post-baptismal Triduum and acclamations typical for the Hispanic liturgy. Extensive euchology of this rite provides valuable information on sacramental theology, which betrays the African influences (in particular the reference to St. Augustine) and has been transmitted by St. Gregory of Elvira, St. Ildefonsus of Toledo and St. Isidore of Seville. It is worth emphasizing the pastoral dimension of the process of initiation visible in complex formulas and the variety of blessings received by catechumens and rituals celebrated in post-baptismal mystagogy.

Celebracja sakramentu chrztu w rycie hiszpańsko-mozarabskim, podobnie jak w pozostałych rodzinach liturgicznych, poprzedzona jest katechumenatem, do którego kandydaci byli włączani poprzez specjalny ryt w niedzielę in vicesima. Artykuł analizuje przebieg celebracji sakramentów wtajemniczenia wedle norm obecnych w odnowionym rycie i z odniesieniem do wcześniejszych tradycji zapisanych w hiszpańskim Liber Ordinum i Antyfonarzu z Leon. Podkreśla się korzenie wizygockiej praktyki pojedynczego zanurzenia w wodzie podczas udzielania sakramentów, a także sens poszczególnych obrzędów wyjaśniających, Triduum pochrzcielnego i aklamacji typowo hiszpańskich. Rozbudowana euchologia dostarcza cennych informacji na temat teologii sakramentalnej, która zdradza wpływy afrykańskie i została przekazana przez św. Grzegorza z Elwiry, św. Ildefonsa z Toledo czy św. Izydora z Sewilli. Na podkreślenie zasługuje duszpasterski wymiar procesu wtajemniczenia widoczny w rozbudowanych formułach, licznych błogosławieństwach otrzymywanych przez katechumenów oraz obrzędach sprawowanych w czasie mistagogii pochrzcielnej.

The article presents the teaching of St. Ildefonsus of Toledo on the Holy Spirit, especially that contained in his writings devoted to the sacrament of baptism. On the basis of selected passages from the Holy Scripture and reflections of earlier authors, the bishop of Toledo emphasizes the truth of the divinity of the Holy Spirit and His equality with the Father and the Son. He also discusses the role of the Holy Spirit in the work of salvation, drawing particular attention to the act of the Incarnation of the Son of God. However, he definitely devotes the most space to the role of the Holy Spirit in the life of every Christian. The Holy Spirit is the one who bestows the necessary grace, enables man to love God and his neighbour, supports him so that he can increase his knowledge of the mysteries of faith. The Holy Spirit gives strength and wisdom in the work of evangelization. In his teachings, Ildefonsus uses the legacy of the earlier Church Fathers, above all Augustine and Isidore of Seville. But he remains original in the form of presenting the difficult truths of the faith. His language is accessible, vivid and at the same time precise.

W artykule przedstawiono nauczanie Ildefonsa z Toledo o Duchu Świętym zawarte przede wszystkim w jego pismach poświęconych sakramentowi chrztu. Biskup Toledo na podstawie wybranych tekstów Pisma Świętego, jak również przemyśleń wcześniejszych autorów, podkreśla prawdę o bóstwie Ducha Świętego oraz Jego równości z Ojcem i Synem. Omawia również Jego rolę w dziele zbawienia, zwracając przede wszystkim uwagę na akt wcielenia Bożego Syna. Zdecydowanie najwięcej miejsca poświęca jednak ukazaniu roli Ducha Świętego w życiu każdego chrześcijanina. To On obdarza potrzebnymi łaskami, uzdalnia człowieka do miłowania Boga i bliźniego, wspiera go w zgłębianiu tajemnic wiary, umacnia i obdarza mądrością w dziele ewangelizacji. W swoim nauczaniu Ildefons korzysta z dorobku wcześniejszych ojców Kościoła, przede wszystkim Augustyna i Izydora z Sewilli. Natomiast pozostaje oryginalny w formie przedstawienia niełatwych prawd wiary. Jego język jest przystępny, obrazowy, a jednocześnie precyzyjny.
