The subject of the article is an analysis of the EULEX Kosovo mission’s role, as an example of international cooperation in combating the organized crime in the area of former ethnic conflict. The above mentioned mission is considered as one of the most important acts of realization of the EU Common Foreign and Security Policy, and it has been playing both important and positive role in term of combating organized crime, which belongs to the crucial problems hindering the normalization of situation in Kosovo. The analysis being carried out shows that the presence of international entities in this country is still required for mini mizing the threat from the organized crime.

The peculiarity of this research is determination and analysis of exhibition activities of regional enterprises and issues concerning the development and operation of exhibition activities for the economy of the country, borders and other geographical regions. To achieve the above, we explored the importance of exhibition activity for the socioeconomic regions development, identified the characteristics of this type of activity operation at the macro- and micro- levels, analyzed the main problems of exhibitions business development in regions, and also offered practical and promising ways of exhibition activities in international cooperation.

Autor opisuje formy współpracy międzynarodowej Polskiego Towarzystwa Statystycznego (PTS) w latach 1912-2011 W pierwszym okresie działalności, główną formą współpracy był udział członków PTS w międzynarodowych konferencjach statystycznych Międzynarodowego Instytutu Statystycznego oraz Europejskim Kongresie Towarzystwa Ekonometrycznego czy Międzynarodowym Kongresie Demografów. Po reaktywowaniu PTS w 1981 r., a szczególnie po przemianach ustrojowych w 1989 r. PTS było organizatorem i sponsorem licznych międzynarodowych konferencji i seminariów naukowych w Polsce. Szczególną uwagę poświęcono czterem statystykom, którzy odegrali znaczącą rolę w międzynarodowych działaniach i rozwoju społeczeństwa, jak również w dziedzinie statystyki polskie, tj. profesorowie Jerzy Neyman, Jan Piekałkiewicz, Jan Czekanowski, a także dr. Jan Wiśniewski. W artykukle podkreślono rolę czasopisma "Statistics in Transition" opublikowanego w języku angielskim.

The Author describes forms of international cooperation in the years 1912-2011 of the Polish Statistical Association (PTS). In the first period of activity, the main form of cooperation was the participation of PTS members in the congresses of the International Statistical Institute and the Econometric Society. After 1989, the PTS organized and sponsored international conferences and scientific seminars in Poland. Particular attention is devoted to four statisticians, who played a prominent role in international activities and the development of the Society as well as Polish statistics, i.e. Professors Jerzy Neyman, Jan Piekałkiewicz and Jan Czekanowski and also to dr. Jan Wiśniewski. The study highlighted the role of a magazine published in English, "Statistics in Transition" (later "Statistics in Transition - new series") in PTS international cooperation. Tematem artykułu jest prezentacja Federacji Europejskich Narodowych Towarzystw Statystycznych (Federation European of National Statistical Societies - FENStatS). Federacja ma krótką historię, ale ważne cele statutowe. Utworzenie jej wywołała dyskusja o najważniejszych problemach w działalności krajowych organizacji statystycznych. Przedstawiciele zarządów towarzystw większości krajów europejskich wyrazili swoje poglądy oraz podzielili się doświadczeniami na spotkaniu w Paryżu w 2010 r., w rocznicę 150-lecia Francuskiego Towarzystwa Statystycznego. Różnorodność spojrzenia na problemy organizacyjno-badawcze sprzyjała działalności seminaryjnej oraz dyskusji o przeszłości, teraźniejszości i przyszłości stowarzyszeń statystycznych w Europie. Została ona wzbogacona koncepcją utworzenia płaszczyzny współpracy. (fragment tekstu)

2014 marked the 600th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Poland and Turkey. The related celebration has been perceived as a way to broaden bilateral relations between the two nations, as collaboration has not fully achieved its economic potential. The past 200 years of Polish-Turkish relations depicted in this article stand as a remarkable example of cooperation between two different cultures and traditions. Recent Polish-Turkish relations as seen in a broader European context represent the emergence of a “new beginning” of opportunity for both nations. Poland has a chance to become an intermediary nation between the EU and Turkey and to be involved in the creation of a new type of relationship between Turkey and the EU.

Contemporary Union seems to have problems on multiple surfaces. The financial problems, more and more apparent constitutional crisis that affects the problem of the limits of sovereignty of the Member States and the possibility of its transfer to the EU institutions. The political crisis, however, is linked to social changes in modern western economies, and can be described by the crisis of representative democracy in the EU. It seems that the only solution for the European Union is even closer integration of the countries forming it. The crisis has shown that politics cannot keep up automatically for the economy. It has also shown that without major political changes, going in the direction of greater unification and co-ordination there is no exit from the crisis.

W 2013 r. chiński prezydent Xi Jingping ogłosił inicjatywę określaną jako Nowy Jedwabny Szlak. Projekt ten zakłada połączenia komunikacyjne między Chinami a innymi częściami świata (krajami Afryki, Europy i Bliskiego Wschodu). Chińska inicjatywa zbiegła się w czasie z zacieśnieniem współpracy gospodarczej między Polską a Chinami. Polska stała się jednym z krajów, które biorą udział w rozwoju Nowego Jedwabnego Szlaku. Wzajemna współpraca może przynieść wiele korzyści zarówno stronie chińskiej, jak również Polsce. Występuje wiele czynników wpływających pozytywnie na współpracę obu krajów. Można jednak wskazać również rozbieżności, w szczególności o charakterze społecznym. Istnienie słabych stron wymaga podejmowania aktywnych działań, które spowodują, że nie tylko Chiny, ale również Polska będzie w przyszłości beneficjentem realizowanej inicjatywy Nowego Jedwabnego Szlaku.

In 2013 the Chinese president Xi Jingping announced the New Silk Road initiative. The main goal of the project is to build transportation connections between China and other parts of the world (especially: African, European, and Middle East countries). The initiative coincided with the tightening of economic cooperation between Peoples Republic of China and Republic of Poland. Poland became one of the New Silk Road participants. There are many factors exerting positive impact on the cooperation, which is able to bring in the future many benefits for both countries, China and Poland. However, there are indicated some discrepancies between the countries as well, especially of social nature. The weaknesses require active efforts, providing that not only China, but Poland as well will be the net beneficiary of the New Silk Road initiative.

CEL/TEZA: Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie wyników badań współautorstwa publikacji z zakresu bibliologii i informatologii, przeprowadzonych na podstawie wybranych czasopismach polskich i zagranicznych, opublikowanych w latach 2000–2009. Autor dodatkowo prezentuje wyniki analizy wykorzystania anglojęzycznych czasopism przez polskich bibliologów i informatologów, uznając cytowania obcojęzycznych publikacji za jeden ze wskaźników kompetencji językowych, niezbędnych do podejmowania międzynarodowej współpracy naukowej. KONCEPCJA/METODY BADAŃ: Badania przeprowadzono na podstawie danych zgromadzonych w bazie CYTBIN oraz pięciu czasopism zagranicznych: International Journal of Information Management, Journal of Academic Librarianship, Journal of Documentation, Journal of the American Society for Information Science and Technology oraz Library and Information Science Research. WYNIKI I WNIOSKI: Przeprowadzone badania ukazały tendencję wzrostu liczby publikacji wieloautorskich w piśmiennictwie zagranicznym w latach 2000-2009, w których artykuły wieloautorskie stanowią 39% ogółu publikacji. Natomiast w literaturze polskiej zaobserwowano w tym okresie stały, 9% udział publikacji wieloautorskich. W badanych czasopismach zagranicznych regularnie pojawiają się artykuły trzech i większej liczby autorów, stanowiąc 16% ogółu publikacji, podczas gdy w czasopismach polskich publikowane są artykuły autorstwa, co najwyżej trzech osób, stanowiąc zaledwie 1% wszystkich publikacji. ORYGINALNOŚĆ/WARTOŚĆ POZNAWCZA: Przeprowadzone badanie przedstawia w kategoriach ilościowych współautorstwo publikacji w polskich czasopismach z zakresu bibliologii i informatologii i porównuje je z publikacjami w czasopismach zagranicznych.

PURPOSE/THESIS: The purpose of the paper is to present the results of the analysis of co-authorship in selected Polish and international library and information science (LIS) journals in the years 2000–2009. Attention is also drawn to Polish LIS scholars’ command of the English language, which has an impact on their international cooperation and co-authorship. APPROACH/METHOD: The analysis was performed with the data from the CYTBIN bibliographic database and five international journals: International Journal of Information Management, Journal of Academic Librarianship, Journal of Documentation, Journal of the American Society for Information (current title: Journal of the Association for Information Science and Technology), Science and Technology, Library and Information Science Research. RESULTS AND CONCLUSIONS: The findings show an increase trend in the number of multi-authored publications in the examined international journals published in the years 2000–2009 in which the multi-authored papers constitute 39% of all publications while in Polish journals multi-authored publications account for 9% only. In the international journals papers by three or more authors are published on a regular basis, making 16% of all publications, whereas in Polish journals papers by no more than three authors are published, accounting for 1% of all publications only. ORIGINALITY/VALUE: The research is a quantitative analysis of co-authorship in Polish LIS journals compared to the co-authorship present in the international journals.

Objective - Austrian libraries abroad, including Poland, have been operating for over 20 years. They are launched in partnerships with libraries and universities. The author discusses the history of Austrian libraries abroad, their collections, users and activities. Research method - The article is based on the analysis of source texts and information found in printed publications and on the web portal of Austrian libraries abroad. Results and conclusions - The network of Austrian libraries is one of significant elements of Austrian foreign cultural policy. Not only do they acquire and circulate various publications, but also they are active centers of culture and education, building an effective platform of knowledge, information and culture exchange with Austria and serving numerous researchers whose intensive cooperation results in a multitude of publications.

Teza/Cel artykułu - Biblioteki austriackie za granicą, w tym w Polsce, istnieją od ponad 20 lat. Działają na zasadzie partnerstwa z bibliotekami i uniwersytetami. W artykule przedstawiono historię powstania sieci bibliotek austriackich, ich zbiorów, użytkowników oraz formy działalności. Metody badań - Opracowanie powstało na podstawie analizy materiałów źródłowych i informacyjnych opublikowanych oraz zaczerpniętych ze stron internetowych portalu bibliotek austriackich za granicą. Wyniki/Wnioski - Sieć bibliotek austriackich jest jednym z istotnych elementów austriackiej polityki kulturalnej za granicą. Ważnym aspektem ich działalności, obok gromadzenia i udostępniania zbiorów, jest ich aktywność jako centrów kultury i edukacji. Tworzą efektywną platformę wymiany wiedzy, informacji i kultury z Austrią. W ramach sieci bibliotek austriackich za granicą istnieje intensywna współpraca badaczy, której efektem są liczne publikacje.
