Nicolette Mout came to live in Prague in 1966 and again in 1967 on an academic exchange program as the first Dutch research student after the Second World War. The subject of her research for a MA in history (University of Amsterdam) was Comenius’s relations with the Dutch Republic. In Prague, her supervisor was Professor Josef Polišenský (1915–2001). In these reminiscences her contacts with the Czechoslovak academic world are described against the background of changes leading up to the Prague Spring.

The basic, constitutive components of Comenius’ metaphysical system are Christian Neo-platonism and Aristotelianism interpreted and integrated into the Christian framework. While the Neoplatonic nature of Comenius’ metaphysical approach has been thoroughly analyzed in connection with Cusanus and Campanella especially by Jan Patočka, the Aristotelian motives, which too are very strong in Comenius’ metaphysics, have received considerably less attention. This is the first problem area on which this study focuses. Comenius’ metaphysics is then presented as an original effort to synthesize the Platonic and Aristotelian lines of thought (the Aristotelian determination of metaphysics as the “scientia entis in genere” – the Platonic conception of metaphysics as a purely a priori doctrine, the subject of which is the possible world of ideas („mundus idealis seu possibilis”); the interpretation of Aristotle‘s doctrine of categories in the triadic-enneadic sense; the support for Comenius’ triadism in Aristotle).

Základními a konstitutivními komponentami Komenského metafyzické soustavy jsou křesťanský novoplatonismus a aristotelismus interpretovaný a integrovaný v křesťanském rámci. Zatímco novoplatónský ráz Komenského metafyzické koncepce byl důkladně analyzován, v souvislosti s Mikulášem Kusánským a Campanellou zvláště Janem Patočkou, aristotelským motivům, které jsou v Komenského metafyzice velmi silné, bylo věnováno mnohem méně pozornosti. A to je první problémový okruh, k němuž je zaměřena tato studie. Dále pak je Komenského metafyzika představena jako osobitý pokus o syntézu platónské a aristotelské myšlenkové linie (aristotelské určení metafyziky jako „scientia entis in genere“ – platónská koncepce metafyziky jako ryze apriorní nauky, jejímž předmětem je ideový svět možný („mundus idealis seu possibilis“); intepretace Aristotelovy nauky o kategoriích v triadicko-enneadickém duchu; opora Komenského triadismu v Aristotelovi).

Odkaz J. A. Komenského je nepřehlédnutelný nejen v oblasti vzdělávání, ale také v mnoha dalších oblastech lidské činnosti a poznání. Jeho dílem byla a stále je inspirována a motivována také Katedra mediálních studií Univerzity J. A. Komenského Praha, která odkaz toho myslitele, filosofa, teologa, „učitele národů“ rozvíjí ve svých studijních programech. Nabízí tak „nápravu věcí lidských“ v současném mediálním „labyrintu“ jako východisko k formaci dnešního člověka k lepším zítřkům a k nalezení sebe sama v „ráji srdce“.

The legacy of J. A. Comenius can be overlooked not only in the field of education, but also in many other areas of human activity and knowledge. His work was and still is th inspiration and motivation for the Department of Media Studies of the J. A. Comenius University in Prague, which develops the legacy of the thinker, philosopher, theologian, „teacher of nations“ in its study programs. It thus offers a „correction of human affairs“ in the current media „labyrinth“ as a starting point for the formation of today‘s man for a better tomorrow and for finding oneself in the „paradise of the heart“.
