The article discusses the activity of Tadeusz Knade, a journalist associated with the Polish opposition movement in the 1980s and the German media, as well as the situation of Polish media personnel forced to emigrate after the declaration of the martial law in Poland. It documents, until 1989, the contribution of West German radio stations to create a new free Europe. Extensive bibliography is included.
