Punktem wyjścia analizy jest ewolucyjny charakter niemieckiego republikanizmu, którego główne linie rozwojowe nakreślone zostały przy trzykrotnej implantacji republikańskiej idei w Niemczech, w okresie Wiosny Ludów, w Republice Weimarskiej i Republice Bońskiej – za każdym razem znajdujące swój symboliczny wyraz w przyjęciu trójkolorowej flagi czarno-czerwono-złotej. Oś analizy przebiega natomiast wzdłuż trzech fenomenów, stanowiących najsilniejsze dryfy współczesnego republikanizmu niemieckiego, noszonego prądem kryzysu państwa socjalnego: komunitaryzmu, wyparcia samego pojęcia republikanizmu z przestrzeni publicznej i zastąpienia go terminem „demokracja”, oraz niebywałym triumfem hasła „sprawiedliwość społeczna”.

The starting point of the analysis is the evolutionary nature of the German republicanism whose main paths to development were traced thanks to the implantation of the republican idea, which occurred thrice in German history – during the Revolutions of 1848, the Weimar Republic and the Federal Republic of Germany. Each time the symbolism was to be found in the acquisition of the black, red, and gold tricolour flag. The analysis touches on three phenomena which are the strongest currents of the modern German republicanism that are carried by the crisis of a welfare state: communitarianism, the replacement of the term “republicanism” for “democracy”, and an incredible triumph of the social justice slogan.

Die Analyse geht von einem evolutionären Charakter des deutschen Republikanismus’ aus. Dessen drei Hauptentwicklungsstränge, die drei Mal in der deutschen Geschichte ersonnen und umgesetzt worden sind, nämlich in der Zeit des Frühlings der Völker 1848, der Weimarer Republik 1919 und der Bonner Republik 1949, und die jedes Mal in der Annahme von Schwarz-Rot-Gold als Bundesfahne symbolisch gipfelten, werden hier skizziert. Im Zentrum der Analyse stehen drei Erscheinungen, die das Driften des gegenwärtigen deutschen Republikanismus’ charakterisieren, getragen durch die Krise des Sozialstaates: der Kommunitarismus, das Verdrängen des Begriffs Republikanismus, der durch das Zauberwort Demokratie ersetzt wurde, und der Triumph der sozialen Gerechtigkeit als wichtigster republikanischer Grundsatz.
