Juan Donoso Cortes was a prominent representative of the counter-revolutionary traditional school of thought. As a Spanish envoy in Berlin in 1849, he was a keen observer of the political turmoil related to the course of the Revolutions of 1848 in the Hohenzollern monarchy and the entire German Confederation.

In September 1819, Prussian War Minister Hermann von Boyen received a letter regarding the situation in the Kingdom of Poland. It was written by General Ludwig Gustav von Thile I, who conducted a factual analysis of the key elements of Poland’s military potential. The letter constitutes crucial evidence of the distrust that marked Polish-Prussian relations marked by distrust after 1815. The text studies Berlin’s perception of the Polish lands from a political and military perspective. It also confirms that foreign countries perceived the negative aspects of the policy pursued by Grand Duke Constantine.

We wrześniu 1819 r. na ręce pruskiego ministra wojny Hermanna von Boyen wpłynął list dotyczący sytuacji w Królestwie Polskim. Jego autorem był gen. Ludwig Gustav von Thile I, który dokonał rzeczowej analizy kluczowych elementów potencjału militarnego wschodniego sąsiada. List jest ważnym świadectwem naznaczonych nieufnością relacji polsko-pruskich po 1815 r. Tekst stanowi studium postrzegania ziem polskich przez Berlin z perspektywy politycznej i militarnej, jak również potwierdza dostrzeganie za granicą negatywnych aspektów polityki uprawianej przez wielkiego księcia Konstantego.

Since 1816 in the newly formed administrative district of Gdańsk, the official journal entitled Amtsblatt der Königlichen Regierungs zu Danzig started to be published. One of the issues that periodically appears on the pages of the paper, is the question of crime, especially the wanted notices. Among the descriptions of height, age or body shape of the criminals, there also appears information that could indicate illnesses, defects, traumas and general weaknesses of the defendants. The analysis of nearly a thousand of wanted notices indicates that these kind of descriptions were frequent and could constitute an important help when identifying the fugitive. The mentioned source material helps us to partly illustrate the life of the lower class of society, mainly the criminal underworld. It also constitutes an invaluable resource for historians of medicine, material culture or law.

Od 1816 r. w nowo powstałej rejencji gdańskiej publikowano dziennik urzędowy – Amtsblatt der Königlichen Regierungs zu Danzig. Jednym z zagadnień, które cyklicznie pojawiały się na łamach tegoż pisma, była kwestia przestępczości – drukowano m.in. listy gończe. Wśród opisów dotyczących wzrostu, wieku czy budowy ciała ściganych przestępców, w listach gończych występowały również informacje mogące wskazywać na choroby, defekty i urazy oraz ogólne słabości. Analiza blisko tysiąca listów gończych wskazuje, iż tego typu opisy były częste i mogły stanowić istotną pomoc przy identyfikacji zbiega. Wspomniany materiał źródłowy pozwala po części zobrazować życie niższych warstw społecznych, w tym przede wszystkim światka przestępczego. Stanowi także nieocenione źródło dla historyków medycyny, kultury materialnej i prawa.
