W wyniku działań wojennych w latach 1914–1917 oraz wojny sowiecko-polskiej 1919–1921 do najbardziej rozpowszechnionych chorób zakaźnych należały przede wszystkim dur plamisty (dur osutkowy), dur brzuszny i dur rzekomy, odra, ospa prawdziwa, jaglica, a także gruźlica. Choroby te dotykały ludność polską wyniszczoną wojną i głodem, a przede wszystkim dotykały dzieci. Dzięki staraniom Książęco-Biskupiego Komitetu Pomocy dla Dotkniętych Klęską Wojny w 1917 r. w Zakopanem w willach „Orla” i „Nosal” powstały Zakłady Lecznicze dla dzieci chorych na gruźlicę. Po odzyskaniu przez Polskę niepodległości Zakład Leczniczy w willi „Nosal” stał się własnością Uniwersytetu Jagiellońskiego w Krakowie. W okresie od kwietnia 1917 r. do końca lutego 1922 r. w zakładach tych łącznie przebywało na leczeniu 569 dzieci chorych na gruźlicę.

The most common infectious diseases encountered as a result of the First World War (1914–1917) and the Polish-Soviet war (1919–1921) were typhus, typhoid and paratyphoid fever, measles, smallpox, trachoma and tuberculosis. These illnesses affected the population of Poland, devastated by war and famine, and mainly affected children. Thanks to the efforts of the Cracovian Episcopal Committee to Help Victims of World War I, the Medical Unit for children with tuberculosis was formed in 1917 in Zakopane in the “Orla” and “Nosal” villas. After Poland regained independence, the medical unit in the “Nosal” villa became the property of the Jagiellonian University of Kraków. Between April 1917 and the end of February 1922, a total of 569 children were treated for tuberculosis by the unit.
