This article’s aim is to present selected results of own research which concern implementing of the learning organisation model by companies, mainly in the context of pursuing educational activity. On the basis of done theoretical analyses and own surveys carried out, main directions of activities concerning the development of businesses transformed into learning organizations were shown.

One of the leading trends in the growing modern economy is represented by learning organisations. They are organisations employing highly qualified workers who share their knowledge capital and skills. They used to present high loyalty level that encouraged workers to do that. It has changed rapidly because in the more flexible labour market the relationship between the employee and employer are different, There is a visible change in the employment policy and the most important factor is reduction in number of fully employed workers, The unprecedented growth of new forms of employment have caused the erosion of loyalty. How to replace it in order to build learning organisation? The chance is offered by the participating organisational structure that offers an individual stronger market position and career development in exchange for an active participation in the organisational development.

W artykule zwrócono uwagę na problematykę dostosowania się polskich przedsiębiorstw górniczych do coraz silniejszej konkurencji na rynku. Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie cech i założeń organizacji uczącej się oraz zaprezentowanie możliwości dostosowania tej koncepcji do przedsiębiorstwa górnictwa węgla kamiennego. Artykuł składa się z dwóch części. Pierwsza odnosi się do istoty funkcjonowania organizacji uczącej się. W drugiej części artykułu przedstawiony został model “organizacji uczącej się”, uwzględniający specyfikę funkcjonowania polskich przedsiębiorstw górnictwa węgla kamiennego. Przekonanie, że organizacja ucząca najszybciej uczy się przez interakcję z otoczeniem i stwarza największe możliwości przedsiębiorstwom górniczym na przetrwanie w coraz bardziej konkurencyjnym otoczeniu jest przesłanką zawartą w prezentowanym artykule.

This article takes a note of problems relating to the adapting of Polish mining companies to continuously growing competition on the market. Its purpose is the presentation of the qualities and assumptions of learning organizations as well as of the potential for adapting this concept to bituminous coal mining companies. The article consists of two sections. The first is related to the essence of the functioning of a learning organization. The second part presents a model of the learning organization that takes into account the specifics of the functioning of Polish bituminous coal mining companies. The conviction that learning organizations learn the quickest through interaction with their surroundings and that such organizations create the best conditions in mining companies for survival in an increasingly competitive environment is the premise presented.

The article presents a historic and present description of foreign academic stations of Polish Academy of Sciences. These are – chronologically – stations in Paris, Rome and Vienna, Historical Research Centre in Berlin, Academic Station of Polish Academy of Sciences in Moscow and Science Promotion Bureau PolSCA in Brussels. For a more precise description the stations were showed in a wider historic and present-day context of other Polish and foreign posts of that kind. While presenting in general each of the mentioned centres of Polish Academy of Sciences, and particularly the Paris station, the author points out that despite different problems, the stations still develop and are essential. A more detailed description of the Paris centre – the oldest Polish academic station abroad – is to reveal a difficult and complicated process of arising such posts, and the process, which is additionally influenced by political context that occurred as a result of World War I, gaining the independent Polish State, World War II, the Polish People's Republic period. Having depicted all foreign stations of Polish Academy of Sciences, the author inquires about their status in Polish science, their mission, ways of managing and financing, about their future.
