This article is devoted to the dissemination in the territory of Poland of the surname Lehmann and of surnames created from it such as Lemanski, Lemanczyk. The authoress examines also the history of the appellatives 'leman' (feudal tenant) and 'lennik' ([vassal). She proposes a hypothesis on the appearance of the surname Lehman in places settled under German law, which allows one to assume that the surname Lehman, brought to Poland by Germans, could have preceded the functioning of the appellative itself.
