The article deals with the borders in the Americas from the end of the 20th to the first decades of the 21st century against a larger historical background. It invites to understand borders as a result of socially constructed processes of bordering and differentiation, namely the simultaneous processes of debordering, rebordering, and border securitization after 2001. This approach is then tested in the case study of bordering processes between the US and Mexico up to the Trump presidency.

El artículo analiza las fronteras dentro del continente americano desde finales del siglo XX hasta principios del siglo XXI tras el fondo histórico más amplio. Propone entenderlas como resultado de prácticas de fronterización definidas a través de procesos de construcción social y diferenciación. Se fija en las tendencias clave paralelas: por un lado, en la tendencia a la desaparición de las fronteras paralelamente a la demarcación de fronteras nuevas, junto al proceso de securitización desencadenado tras 2001. Este análisis se pone a prueba en el estudio de caso de la frontera internacional entre Estados Unidos y México.
