The writings of Corpus Dionysiacum present a concept of life which is different from the one that we profess nowadays. Its view is backed up mainly by the Platonic tradition, which since the times of Plato has tended to see life as an intellectual principle. Therefore, in the Neoplatonic system we can find the conviction that life, in its fullest sense, is intellectual and at its peak is a vision of the One. In the system of Proclus, life, apart from being a principle, is also a god and the main principle of the whole world of intellectual and intellective gods. Pseudo-Dionysius in his writings exploits the concept of the unparticipable and participable principle, and since God is for him Trinity completely beyond participation and knowledge, the divine names play the role of participable henads. However, for Dionysius, names are neither hypostases nor living gods, which is clearly visible in case of the name of Life. All things participate in the name of life and in this name God is the only principle of life in the universe. However, life is not a property to own, but rather a constant struggle to approach the Trinity. Therefore, by committing a sin, an angel or a man loses life, which in the case of a man can be regained through sacramental activity. An analysis of the thoughts of Pseudo-Dionysius reveals a conception of life which is unified contrary to its shattered modern understanding. While biological, mental, moral lives fundamentally differ for us, for Dionysius those are merely aspects of the same thing, and therefore in his view life can be lost and regained not only in the metaphorical, but also the ontological sense.

The article is based on Anabelle Honess Roe’s research in which she analysed the ways that animation is used in Roger Ross Williams’s documentary Life, Animated (2016). It studies how an individual, subjective perspective is evoked in the film. Other documentaries which use animation to tell the story about autism are mentioned as a context.

The article explains what the concept of gesture is, presents its categories, functions and importance in literature. The author creates his own classification of gestures, which corresponds to the analysis of the volume My Sister, Life. On the basis of selected pieces of work, the author validates the correctness of his classification and shows the importance and functions of gestures in the early poetry of Boris Pasternak.

На основі вибра- них віршів автор обґрунтовує правильність своєї класифікації, вказує на значення і функції жестів в ранній поезії Бориса Пастернака.

This paper presents a philosophical dispute on the nature and the origin of life. At the beginning author analyzes the central philosopical concepts of life which appeared in the history of philosophy and examines a main manifestations of life in its action. This inquiry leads to recogniton of a living substance as different from matter. Than author recalls the discussion between K. Kłósak and M. A. Krąpiec on the philosophical explanation of life and its genesis. Kłósak postulated a concept in which God have established such laws of nature, so the matter could yield life on its own. Krąpiec rejected Kłósak's concept of an indirect creation of life and argued that the only rational explanation of life is the special, direct act of God's creation. Krąpiec, relying on St. Thomas Aquinas, argued that God cannot use matter (or any other intermediary tools) in creation of a substance. Author concludes that reductionism in explanation of life bears ethical consequences, because cannot set any barriers to the artificial modifications of living organism.

Artykuł dotyczy trójwymiarowych przestrzeni wirtualnych dostępnych online. Są to środowiska całkowicie graficzne. Użytkownik porusza się w przestrzeni 3D, sterując swoim awatarem – również trójwymiarową reprezentacją graficzną siebie samego. Początków takich światów należy szukać wśród gier strategiczno-przygodowych, jednak niektóre ewoluowały do tworów zwanych światami wirtualnymi „na serio”, które nie służą graniu. Ich zasoby są tworzone w całości i od początku przez samych użytkowników (rezydentów). Ci ostatni nie grają, lecz budują, tworzą infrastrukturę i egzystują w nich dla swoich własnych celów, jakiekolwiek one są: od rozrywkowych, przez edukacyjne, do komercyjnych. Do trzech najważniejszych cech takich środowisk zaliczają się: immersja, teleobecność i współobecność. Autor omawia wyłącznie światy wirtualne „na serio”. Największym z nich jest obecnie Second Life. Wiele instytucji – w tym edukacyjnych – ma tam swoje wirtualne agendy lub kampusy. W artykule omówione są wybrane przykłady projektów, instytucji i miejsc w Second Life, które wiążą się z problematyką niepełnosprawności człowieka; odniesiono się m.in. do kwestii czy, jak i gdzie w Second Life osoba niepełnosprawna może się realizować bądź szukać wsparcia.

The article discusses three-dimensional virtual online environments. These are entirely graphical environments. The user moves through those spaces through his/her avatar – a 3D graphical representation of himself/herself. Historically, these worlds emerged more than a decade ago from strategic and adventure games; however, some of them evolved into creations called serious virtual worlds. These are not games. Their content is created in its entirety by their users (residents) from scratch. There is no central game there. Residents do not play, but they build infrastructure and exist there for their own needs whatever these needs are: from pleasure and fun, through education to commerce and business. Three main characteristics of these environments are: immersion, telepresence and co-presence. The author discusses serious virtual worlds only. Nowadays, the largest serious virtual world is Second Life. Many institutions – including educational ones – have their virtual agendas or campuses there. The article discusses selected examples of projects, institutions and places in Second Life which deal with disability issues, e.g. if, how and where a person with disability may fulfill himself/herself or seek support.

he article analyzes the term oi` nekroi,, in Rev 20:4-5. All scholars examining this text assume that the term oi` nekroi, should be interpreted here literally, i.e. it denotes the dead in a physical meaning (as people who have been killed or died). However such assumption causes a variety of problems concerning especially the chronology of events described in Rev 20:1-10. This problem seems to be resolved if “the dead” are interpreted in spiritual sense (as spiritually dead). Basing on this assumption the presented paper aims to define identity of the dead in Rev 20:4-5. The presentation has been made in three stages. At the beginning the state of research has been presented. This analysis points out a necessity of another look at the term oi `nekroi, used in Rev 20:4-5. The second stage consists in examining the question whether the spiritual meaning of oi` nekroi, is possible in the light of other passages of the Book of Revelation and in the context of the whole Johannine tradition (especially in the Fourth Gospel). At the end the role of oi` nekroi, in Rev 20:4-5 has been defined.

Prawo jest nieodłącznym elementem istnienia i funkcjonowania każdej ludzkiej wspólnoty. Podobnie jak społeczność, w której prawo istnieje, jest ono jakby żywym organizmem, to znaczy rodzi się, żyje i umiera. To życie prawa jest zawsze połączone ze zmianami w prawie. Celem niniejszego artykułu jest przedstawienie niektórych czynników wpływających na zmiany w prawie. Wzięto pod uwagę czynniki o charakterze społecznym, kulturowym, ekonomicznym. Wyrastają one z życia społeczności, co dobrze wyraża starożytna maksyma ius sequitur vitam. Jest bardzo ważne, aby prawodawca z jednej strony miał świadomość konieczności nieustannego dostosowania prawa do stopnia rozwoju społeczności, a z drugiej strony powinien wiedzieć, co w systemie prawa jest niezmienne.
