Czerwone wampiry. Geneza i funkcjonowanie kulturowego dyskursu lustmordu w PRL

The article discusses the genesis of the cultural discourse of sexual murders perpetuated by perpetrators called “lust murderers,” or colloquially “vampires.” These characters were portrayed-in accordance with the format shaped by criminology and the press of the beginning of the twentieth century-as emanations of the highly anthropogenically changed “woundscape” ( M. Seltzer ). The process of constructing the figure of the “vampire” through othering thus came into conflict with the dynamics of modernization. After the political breakthroughs, the stories of the “vampires” were revised, and today the narratives about their deeds became part of the hauntological trend of “communist Gothic.”

Artykuł omawia genezę dyskursu zabójstw z motywów seksualnych, których sprawcy nazywani byli „zabójcami z lubieżności”, a potocznie „wampirami”. Postaci te przedstawiane były – zgodnie z formatem ukształtowanym przez kryminalistykę i prasę początku XX wieku – jako emanacje silnie przekształconego antropogennie woundscape’u ( M. Seltzer ). Proces konstruowania postaci „wampira” poprzez othering wchodził tym samym w konflikt z dynamiką procesów modernizacji. Po następujących po sobie przełomach politycznych opowieści o „wampirach” poddawano kolejnym rewizjom, a obecnie w Polsce narracje o ich czynach wpisują się w hauntologiczny nurt „peerelowskiego gotyku”.

According to Chantal Mouffe’s conception of agonistic pluralism I will analyse the role which one of Jenny Holzer artwork plays in hegemonic struggle. Lustmord. is the work produced in 1993 as an example of undermining the memory discourse about military action during Bosnian War. The artist places violence against women into the centre of war strategy thereby giving voice to the victims rather than to the winner. I hope to find out if Lustmord creates an agonistic dimension of public space.
