The article discusses the issue of small mediaeval figural sculptures in connection with an artefact of that type found in northern Poland. The find in question is a small clay figurine representing a woman; it was excavated in late-mediaeval layers discovered during archaeological rescue work in Bydgoszcz. Previously there were no similar finds in that area; the closest analogies in Poland come from lower Silesia. Clay figurines were widespread in Western Europe, and it is assumed that they were produced mainly at the borderland of Germany and the Netherlands.
