The article presents the main features of the pension funds and analyzes the structure of portfolios' asset of pension funds in years 1999-2008. The Author also presented some problems connected with modifying the rules of functioning pension funds in the context of public finance and public debt, demographic situation, financial market, costs of pension funds' portfolio management, and condition of part of the system in the aspect of the entire pension system in Poland.
