Nakłady ponoszone na gospodarkę wodną w Polsce są ograniczone. Nieliczne zrealizowane inwestycje, takie jak np. małe zbiorniki retencyjne, powinny być wykorzystane w najbardziej efektywny sposób. Głównym celem pracy jest ocena przydatności do rekreacji zbiornika Ostrowy i jego rekreacyjnego wykorzystania. Ocena została przeprowadzona na podstawie parametrów morfometrycznych zbiornika, miejscowych planów zagospodarowania terenów otaczających akwen oraz jego aktualnego wykorzystania i przyległych terenów. Pierwotnie zbiornik był przeznaczony do retencjonowania wody na cele rolnicze (nawadniania upraw). Brak inwestorów i inne czynniki uniemożliwiły takie wykorzystanie zbiornika. Pomimo niezbyt korzystnych pod kątem rekreacji parametrów morfometrycznych, uchwalono miejscowy plan pozwalający na rekreacyjne wykorzystanie terenów wokół akwenu i zrealizowano inwestycje w infrastrukturę. Pozwala to na znacznie bardziej efektywne wykorzystanie zbiornika retencyjnego Ostrowy.

Incurred expenditure on water management is limited. Few carried out investments, such as small water reservoirs should be utilized in the most effective way. The main objective of the work is the assessment of the recreational value of reservoir Ostrowy and its recreational use. The assessment was based on the morphometric parameters of the reservoir, local development plans for the surrounding areas and present use of the reservoir and surrounding areas. Initially the reservoir was planned for water retention for agricultural purposes (irrigation of crops). Lack of investors and other factors prevented such use. Despite the fact that the morphometric parameters were not very favourable for recreation, local development plans allowed recreational use of the reservoir and investments in infrastructure followed. That resulted in much more effective usage of the Ostrowy reservoir.
