Zarówno polska muzyka popularna jak i alternatywna nie cieszą się na świecie zbyt dużą popularnością. Rzadko ma miejsce sytuacja, gdy polskie zespoły lub wykonawcy stają się światowymi gwiazdami. Istnieją jednak pewne wyjątki. Jednym z nich są polskie zespoły death metalowe, które nie tylko grają koncerty na całym świecie i sprzedają płyty poza Europą, ale również pojawiają się w największych międzynarodowych czasopismach i rankingach muzycznych, a nawet w literaturze opisującej historię tego typu muzyki. Są więc częścią kanonu muzyki death metalowej na świecie. Jest to jednak dość ciężki towar eksportowy. Aby to ukazać, została dokonana ilościowa analiza tekstów piosenek – wspomagana programem bazującym na teorii ugruntowanej Atlas.ti – jakościowa analiza okładek oraz opisu wizerunku członków dwóch najbardziej znanych polskich zespołów z tego nurtu. Są to Vader oraz popularny ostatnio w mediach za pośrednictwem swojego lidera Nergala – Behemoth.

Neither Polish popular music nor its counterpart are commonly held in high esteem in the rest of the world. It is always a noteworthy exception, whenever a Polish rock band or a performer find worldwide acclamation. There exist, however, some exceptions from the rule. One of them are Polish death metal bands. They do not only perform with remarkable success on the international scene and sell their records across the boundaries of Europe, but are regularly present in the columns of prominent international musicmagazines and – rankings. They easily defend their place in the specialist literature dedicated to the history of this brand of music. They represent thus an integral part of the worldwide canon of death metal music. However, Polish death metal reveals to be a quite cumbersome exportarticle. To demonstrate this predicament, a quantitative analysis of exemplary lyrics was conducted – assisted by a program based on the grounded theory – Atlas.ti, along with a qualitative analysis of the respective album covers. The portrayal of the imagecultivation of the members of two outstanding Polish bands of this musicstyle: Vader and Behemoth, rounds out the picture. Behemoth recently gained some notoriety in the media, thanks to the amorous adventures of their leader, Nergal.
