Celem artykułu jest przeanalizowanie, w jaki sposób św. Bonawentura z Bagnoregio przedstawia zatwierdzenie Zakonu Braci Mniejszych oraz ich Reguły. Teksty Żywota większego i Żywota mniejszego zostają porównane z najwcześniejszymi dziełami hagiograficznymi poświęconymi św. Franciszkowi z Asyżu. Odczytanie tych dzieł w świetle kazań Bonawentury ku czci Świętego Asyżanina pozwala na głębsze uchwycenie intencji autora, który kreśląc duchowy portret założyciela zakonu, pomija milczeniem fakty mogące osłabić pozycję Braci Mniejszych w toczącym się wówczas sporze o rolę nowych wspólnot zakonnych w Kościele. Bonawentura przenosi więc akcent z zatwierdzenia Zakonu i Reguły przez papieża − stojące w sprzeczności z Konstytucją XIII Soboru Laterańskiego IV − na stygmatyzację Franciszka, którą przedstawia jako cudowne potwierdzenie wspólnoty Braci Mniejszych przez samego Chrystusa.

The purpose of the article is to analyze how St. Bonaventure of Bagnoregio presents the Order of Friars Minor and their rules. The text of the Legenda major and Legenda minor is compared with the early hagiographic works about Francis of Assisi. Reading these works in the light of the predicts of Bonaventure in honor of Saint Assissin allows a deeper understanding of the Friars Minor in the world of Friars Minor in the ongoing conflict over the role of the religious community in the Church. Bonaventure were sinks the focus of the Order of the XIIIth Lateran Council IV – to the stigmatization of Francis, which he presents as a miraculous confirmation of the Friars Minor by Christ himself.
