This paper discusses the role of the piano as a didactic instrument for children. The piano offers a great motivational aid in music education and provides an important aid in specific musical activities designed for children. A model scenario, developed by the author, presents a wide array of piano exercises that can be adopted during music lessons. They contain progressively structured musical activities, which are playful in character as well as suggest a specific teaching pedagogy.

Piano is one of the most important motivators in music education for the early age children. It motivates them to different musical activities in music education. The piano teacher demonstrating his/her practical abilities can be an effective stimulus for their own piano playing. This paper proposes specific exercises enabling children to gain an active knowledge of the keyboard; it also discusses different starting points for further activities in music education.
