On the basis of an atelier existing within the Łańcut Museum a District Conservation Atelier has been called into being in 1963 that is now responsible for a wide range of tasks, comprising (a) the conservator’s supervision over the works conducted on movable monuments and submitting the proposals to the Voivodship Conservator, (b) the expert studies and technical works commissioned by the Voivodship Conservator within the protection activities concerning the mobile monuments, (c) the assistance and advisory functions serving the museums and collections of the Rzeszów Voivodship in their conservation work on museum pieces. In addition to activities listed above and normally performed by its conservation department a special department of the Atelier is gathering and storing the objects coming from the Voivodship area. It deserves to be mentioned here that the Atelier is also responsible for the systematic conservation operations on objects from the Łańcut Museum and performs a regular supervision over its collections.

The author discusses the conservation treatments applied to a carriage of the first half of the 19ith century possessed by general Piotr Szembek. These treatments comprised the replacement of the undercoating of lacquer as well as the reconstruction of interior upholstery, providing the whole with a new coating of lacquer as well as the reconstruction of the rear servant-bench. As the basic documentation for the above reconstruction served the drawing and photographic materials illustrating the analogous vehicles. Owing to conservation treatments the carriage under discussion has been brought back to state of full usability and is now included to the collection of ancient horse-drawn vehicles in the Łańcut Museum.
