W artykule pod kątem językowym zostały omówione wybrane passusy z opublikowanego na początku XVII w. łacińskiego przekładu przypisywanej Arystotelesowi rozprawki O cnotach i wadach, którego dokonał Franciszek Tidicaeus, wówczas profesor Gimnazjum Akademickiego w Toruniu. Dokonana analiza rzuca dużo światła na szczegóły warsztatu translacyjnego toruńskiego uczonego i pozwala pokazać przyjętą przez niego metodologię pracy nad greckim oryginałem.

The article discusses selected passages from the Latin translation of the essay On Virtues and Defects published at the beginning of the 17th century and attributed to Aristotle. The work was translated by Francis Tidicaeus, a professor at the Academic Junior High School in Toruń. The analysis sheds much light on the details of the Toruń scholar's translation workshop and allows us to show his methodology of work on the Greek original.

Im Beitrag schilderte man aus sprachlicher Sicht gewählte Abschnitte aus der am Anfang des 17. Jahrhunderts veröffentlichten lateinischen Übersetzung des dem Aristoteles zugeschriebenen Beitrags Über die Tugenden und die Laster, die von Franz Tidicaeus, Professor des Akademischen Gymnasiums zu Thorn, vorbereitet wurde. Die Analyse erklärt die Details der Übersetzertätigkeit des Thorner Gelehrten und erlaubt, die von ihm angenommene Methodologie seiner Arbeit am griechischen Original zu schildern.

Die Bearbeitung rekurriert auf die weltweit erste lateinische Übersetzung der Aristoteles zugeschriebenen Schrift Von Tugenden und Lastern, die 1539 von Simon Grynaeus, damals Professor der Universität Basel angefertigt wurde. Neben den Angaben zum Übersetzer sowie den Sprachbemerkungen enthält die besagte Bearbeitung auch eine nach Rechtschreibung, Zeichensetzung und Redaktion korrigierte Übersetzung von Grynaeus, welche aufgrund der in Frankfurt 1593 gedruckten Ausgabe erschien und in den Beständen der Öffentlichen Woiwodschaftsbibliothek – Kopernikus Bücherei in Thorn aufbewahrt wird.

Opracowanie dotyczy pierwszego na świecie łacińskiego przekładu zachowanej pod imieniem Arystotelesa rozprawki O cnotach i wadach, którego w 1539 r. dokonał Szymon Grynaeus, wówczas profesor Uniwersytetu w Bazylei. Poza informacjami na temat autora translacji oraz uwagami o charakterze językowym wspomniane opracowanie zawiera również poprawioną pod kątem ortograficznym, interpunkcyjnym oraz redakcyjnym wersję tłumaczenia Grynaeusa, przygotowaną na podstawie wydania, które ukazało się drukiem w 1593 r. we Frankfurcie, a znajduje się w zbiorach Wojewódzkiej Biblioteki Publicznej – Książnicy Kopernikańskiej w Toruniu.

The study concerns the world's first Latin translation of the essay On Virtues and Vices, preserved under the name of Aristotle, which was made in 1539 by Simon Grynaeus, then a professor at the University of Basel. In addition to the information about the author of the translation and linguistic comments, the study mentioned above also includes a spelling, punctuation, and editorial revision of Grynaeus's translation prepared based on the edition that appeared in print in 1593 in Frankfurt and is in the collections of the Nicolaus Copernicus Public Provincial Library in Toruń.
