Thesis/Objective ‒ The article is focused on the latest trends in information and communication technologies, including: augmented reality, wearable computing, holograms, 3D printers, Internet of things and phenomena related to the dynamic development of automation and robotics. The author attempts to draw conclusions regarding the potential of new IT achievements in the improvement of library services as well as library information and promotion activities, particularly in the case of public and academic libraries. Research method ‒ The method of literature analysis and critique was applied, based on the analysis of the current literature in the field of computer science (2010-2015) as well as professional web portals and journals. Benchmarking was used to identify the examples of good practice as regards the use of IT technologies in libraries. Results ‒ As a result of the research the systematic review of new trends in IT was done as well as the analysis of the possibility of their application in the library everyday practice. Furthermore, the examples of the use of these technologies in the libraries were provided and the forecasts for further use of new ICT tools in the library activity were formulated. Conclusions ‒ The study showed that the latest information and communication technologies can be applied in the library practice. Particularly noteworthy technology is that of augmented reality.

Teza/cel artykułu ‒ Przedmiotem artykułu są najnowsze trendy w technologii informacyjno-komunikacyjnej. Pod uwagę wzięto problemy takie, jak: rozszerzona rzeczywistość, wearable computing, hologramy, drukarki 3D, narzędzia Internet of things (Internet rzeczy, Internet obiektów) oraz zjawiska związane z dynamicznym rozwojem automatyki i robotyki. Celem jest sformułowanie wniosków dotyczących potencjału nowych osiągnięć IT dla usprawnienia działalności usługowej, informacyjnej i promocyjnej bibliotek publicznych i akademickich. Metoda ‒ Zastosowano metodę analizy i krytyki bieżącej literatury przedmiotu z dziedziny informatyki (lata 2010-2015) oraz portali i czasopism branżowych, jak również posłużono się benchmarkingiem w celu wyłonienia przykładów dobrych praktyk w zakresie wykorzystania technologii IT w bibliotekach. Wyniki – W rezultacie przeprowadzonych badań: dokonano systematycznego przeglądu nowych trendów w IT, przeanalizowano możliwości wykorzystania nowych narzędzi IT w praktyce bibliotecznej, przedstawiono przykłady zastosowania omawianych technologii w bibliotekach oraz sformułowano prognozy dotyczące perspektyw dalszego wykorzystania nowych narzędzi informacyjno-komunikacyjnych w pracy bibliotek. Wnioski ‒ Przeprowadzone badania pokazały, że najnowsze osiągnięcia technologii informacyjno-komunikacyjnej mogą znaleźć zastosowanie w praktyce bibliotecznej. Na szczególną uwagę zasługuje technologia rozszerzonej rzeczywistości.
