„Nowy duch” w starym porcie – rewitalizacja starego portu w Reykjaviku

Artykuł dotyczy rewitalizacji Starego Portu w Reykjaviku, obszaru niezwykle ważnego dla mieszkańców Islandii, zarówno ze względów strategicznych, jak i z uwagi na ochronę dziedzictwa kulturowego kraju. Celem niniejszego artykułu, o charakterze studium przypadku, jest opis przebiegu procesu rewitalizacji – przekształcenia obszaru z przestrzeni poprzemysłowej w tętniące życiem miejsce o różnorodnych funkcjach, skierowanych zarówno do mieszkańców, jak i do turystów. Artykuł opiera się na analizie danych zastanych, wywiadach z właścicielami terenu i ekspertami z działających w porcie instytucji oraz na obserwacji bezpośredniej prowadzonej w Reykjaviku od maja do lipca 2014 r. W tekście starano się dowieść, że rewitalizacja Starego Portu w Reykjaviku może być uznana za dobry przykład działań podejmowanych przez prywatnych inwestorów, dotyczących ożywienia obszaru postindustrialnego oraz połączenia nowych funkcji z zachowaniem przykładów świadczących o dawnym przeznaczeniu terenu.

The article concerns the revitalization of the Old Harbor in Reykjavik, an area which is extremely important for all citizens of Iceland, for strategic reasons, but also taking into consideration protection of the national heritage. The aim of the case study is to present the revitalization process which was carried out in the Old Harbor – from a post-industrial space to a vibrant area designed for tourists and citizens, with mixed-use of the space. The article is based on an analysis of existing data, interviews with people involved in the revitalization process and direct observation conducted in Reykjavik from May to July 2014. The author attempts to prove that the revitalization process of the Old Harbor in Reykjavik can be regarded as a good example of activities taken by private investors to revitalize a post-industrial space and connecting new functions with protection of elements indicating historical functions of the area.
