Wedle danych w starzejącym się społeczeństwie zmniejszać się będą zasoby nieformalnej opieki nad osobami starszymi, zarówno materialnej, jak i niematerialnej, realizowanej dotychczas głównie w rodzinie. Będzie to miało wpływ na produktywność i wzrost gospodarczy, rynek pracy, system zabezpieczenia społecznego oraz finanse publiczne. W konsekwencji wymaga to budowy nowego modelu opieki, w którym należy uwzględnić wzrost popytu na różnego rodzaju usługi i towary, zwłaszcza opiekuńcze, i zmianę struktury usług zdrowotnych, w tym teleopieki.
