The article presents the results of the research concerning the role the cultural and physical activity plays in rehabilitation of convicts in the prison in Glubczyce. It describes particular forms of such activities accomplished and preferred in this unit. The convicts' attitudes toward them are shown through the analysis of their emotional-incentive component and the diagnosis of the development of the needs in this range. To estimate the efficiency of cultural and physical activities in rehabilitation the convicts' opinions about the way the activities affect and change their conducts are taken into account. The analysis of the results of the research considering the foregoing issues presents the cultural an physical work as an important penitentiary measures, the proper, creative accomplishment of which enables the realization of penitentiary rehabilitation
