The authoress arranges in order and supplements the previously studied issues concerning the education of the Jagiellons. Beginning with the founder of the dynasty - Wladyslaw Jagiello - a deep respect for knowledge was manifested. Almost all tutors of the young Jagiellons were connected with the Cracow University. The educational process proceeded in three stages: 1) until the sixth year of age under the mother's supervision (rudimentary skills of reading and writing, learning of primary prayers), 2) school education comprising the liberal arts and martial art under the supervision of experienced teachers (several years), 3) practical introduction of the future ruler into the political life. Of importance are the preserved pedagogical treaties, especially the one written around 1502 in the circle of Elisabeth of Habsburg (the wife of Casimir Jagiellon) entitled 'De institutione regii pueri'. It shows the educational programme, the daily schedule of royal children, care devoted to their intellectual and physical development. In teaching, the focus was laid upon grammar and rhetoric, history, learning of foreign languages, especially German. Additionally, there were lessons of music, astronomy and astrology as well as mathematics. Sigismund August possessed especially extensive knowledge. The education of the Jagiellons was deeply rooted in the classical culture, but, first of all, founded on Christian values. It was connected with the chivalric ethos. The purpose was to bring up a good Christian ruler.
