The author's recollections contain the history primarily of the Kraków and Belgrade school of onomastics. They are interspersed with a series of personal experiences and impressions connected primarily with people who have worked in this field of linguistics, and sometimes also who pioneered in it; but they also contain references to meetings with other noted scholars and linguists throughout the world. The works mentioned, not only of onomastics but also Slavic, and works remembered on the theory of onomastics recall to mind important and sometimes forgotten accomplishments of Polish onomasticians. Examples of translations of proper nouns (mainly translations of Sienkiewicz in Serbo-Croatian) are interesting. During the author's many years of work with the periodical, 30 of his articles have been printed in 'Onomastica'.
