In Maria Janion's 'Niesamowita Slowianszczyzna' (This Amazing Slavdom), the reviewers finds an exemplification of a method of practising humanities, as postulated by Professor Janion, as cognition and therapy. The diagnosis of a torn Polish identity, which is caused by ousted Slavdom and a post-colonial trauma, is accompanied by therapeutic suggestions: understanding of one's own condition and acknowledging oneself in one's trans-boundary nature. This stands for an opportunity for one to free oneself from a superiority/inferiority complex, whereas for the Polish culture which tends to assimilate various civilisations - an opportunity is offered to overcome its existing limitations.
