The purpose of this analysis is to look at occupational prestige phenomenon from a new perspective which takes into account its multidimensional nature. Using factor analysis of occupational prestige ratings from the 2006 Polish module of the European Social Survey, the 1987 Polish IFiS-PAN survey and the 1989 United States Social Survey data, the author presents dimensions in which respondents evaluate occupational prestige of several positions. At least three enduring dimension of evaluating prestige have occurred across time and space (in two countries). Those dimensions are: manual labour, key functions in organisations and importance (utility) for society. Moreover, in the Polish data from 2006 the author finds an additional dimension, namely the public function dimension. Four dimensions found in the Polish data from 2006 are examined using variables which characterise respondents' socioeconomic status and attitude to life - especially associated with work. Beside the public functions dimension, there is no significant difference in evaluating prestige on a particular dimension between respondents with various socioeconomic status and attitude to life. The presented approach to occupational prestige can also explain some changes in prestige ratings. The author draws a comparison between Poland in 1987 and 2006 and shows significant shifts in perception of some occupations.

The variety spoken in Granada (Spain) presents singular features developed due to the late conquest of this territory and also due to the expansion of the city during the second half of the 20th century. The paper deals with the prestige of particular variants, which are typical of the variety of Granada, because this information is important in respect of their evolution process. The study pays particular attention to the relation between the two forms of imperfect subjunctive cantara/cantase and various phonetic phenomena that can be observed in this city. The hypothesis builds on the assumption that the speakers who alternate the two forms of imperfect subjunctive are more conscious of the prestigious forms and for this reason they also use the prestigious variants on the phonetic level.

The essay mainly tries to make a comparison between the Old Babylonian Empire and the Hittite World, by empirically analysing the servants' rise from one social position to another. The author separately discusses status inconsistency in the Old Babylonian Empire and the integration of the ancient Oriental elite into the dimension of social status. Was there discrimination by gender in the Hettite labour market? What chances of mobility existed in the Egyptian army? The paper dwells on the problems of formal/informal prestige at length in the learned elite, not disregarding even such factors like emancipation, inheritance and law suits of slaves.
