The article considers one of the main applications of the competence approach - the development in trainees competencies necessary for professional activity. Types of professional schools are enumerated. The contents of education are described. Reflections on the labour market are presented, labour market needs are analyzed. The idea of predicting these needs on the basis of the information given by state structures is stressed.
