The spread of the Cyrillo-Methodian tradition throughout the district of Považská Bystrica is associated with Štefan Závodník, a Roman Catholic priest and national revivalist who worked in the village of Pružina. Thanks to his enthusiasm and intense activity the Cyrillo-Methodian tradition had already been established in the part of the district of Považská Bystrica by the late of the 19th century. Due to the influence of his ideas the tradition spread also to nearby parishes in the early of the 20th century. The paper outlines the importance of Štefan Závodník’s influence on the dissemination of the Cyrillo-Methodian tradition in the Považská Bystrica district in the 19th and 20th century.
