This paper is an attempt to analyze the impact of crisis 2008-2013 on the in¬tegration processes within EU and the euro zone. A thesis of this study is that the after¬math of the crisis led to the revival of the idea of political union. The article lists the institutional weaknesses of European monetary union, which contributed to the intensification of the crisis phenomena in some euro area economies. There is also an indication that the introduced reforms were centered around increasing the coordination of economic policies of Member States, what implies the need for clos-er political cooperation within the EU. The main part of the paper is an overview of A Blueprint for a deep and genuine Economic and Monetary Union - a key document that contains a vision of the future co¬operation of the EU Member States on the financial, economic, fiscal and political level. In the final section there is an attempt to present the consequences of the heterogeneous understanding of the concept of political union, as well as a trial to classify the emerging vision of political cooperation within the EU.
