One of the basic active tools used in social assistance in Poland is a social contract. It is an agreement between a social worker and the person who benefits (or their family) which defines and exactly describes their mutual obligations, expectations, rights and responsibilities. The article presents the results of a survey conducted among 413 social workers from the Podkarpacie Province. The results of empirical research has identified social workers` attitudes and opinions towards social contracts. The empirical results shows that social contract is unpopular and ineffective tool of social work practice in Podkarpacie Province.

In each country, a very important part of social policy is a social assistance. The social assistance helps people who are poor and socially excluded, because of economic and social reasons. The efficiency of social assistance is determined by many external and internal conditions. Th is article presents results of empirical research conducted on 378 social workers and chosen conditions of social assistance policy in Podkarpacie Province. The results of research and analysis suggest that policy of social assistance in the Podkarpacie Province is ineffective.

The main aim of social system is to reduce poverty and minimizing social problems. The adequate social infrastructure and human resources are necessary to accomplish this goal. One of the most important group among social services are social workers. The quality of their work has strong influence on the effectiveness of the social assistance system. The article presents the results of a survey conducted among 378 social workers from the Podkarpacie Province. The results of empirical research has identified some conditions of the profession of social workers. The article is also an attempt to identify the level of burnout among social workers in Podkarpacie Province.

Odniesienie sukcesu na rynku pracy wymaga nabywania kwalifikacji zawodowych i ich aktualizacji. Proces ten powinien trwać przez całe życie i może przybierać formę edukacji formalnej i pozaformalnej. Szczególnego znaczenia nabiera on w przypadku zawodów, których istotą jest niesienie pomocy innym m.in. pracowników socjalnych. Prezentowany artykuł jest próbą ukazania roli edukacji w procesie profesjonalizacji pracowników socjalnych. Ponadto artykuł przedstawia formy edukacji formalnej i pozaformalnej wśród pracowników socjalnych na terenie województwa podkarpackiego.

Success in the labor market requires to gain of professional qualifications and their updating. This process should last a lifetime and can take the form of formal and non-formal education. It is particularly important in the case of professions whose help other people, i.a. social workers. The presented article is an attempt to show the role of education in the process of professionalization of social workers. The article presents also forms of formal and non-formal education among social workers in the Podkarpackie Province.
