CEL/TEZA: Artykuł przedstawia wyniki badań nad aktualnym stopniem rozwoju repozytoriów instytucjonalnych polskich uniwersytetów, w tym szczególnie nad stanem rejestracji dorobku naukowego i podstawami prawnymi regulującymi funkcjonowanie systemów repozytoryjnych. Celem badań było ustalenie poziomu otwartości polskich publikacji naukowych. KONCEPCJA/METODY BADAŃ: Autorka zbadała liczebność zasobów w różnych systemach rejestrujących dorobek naukowy pracowników uniwersytetów (repozytoriach, Archiwach Prac Dyplomowych (APD) oraz bibliografiach publikacji pracowników). Podstawą badań były informacje udostępnione na stronach internetowych tych systemów oraz bibliotek i uczelni odpowiedzialnych za ich prowadzenie, a także innych instytucji i organizacji wspierających otwartą naukę w Polsce. Badania empiryczne autorka uzupełniła krytyczną analizą piśmiennictwa przedmiotu. WYNIKI I WNIOSKI: Dzięki zastosowanym metodom badawczym wykazano, że funkcjonujące obecnie systemy repozytoryjne polskich uniwersytetów spełniają swoje zadania w niewystarczającym stopniu, a proces ich rozwoju jest wolniejszy od oczekiwanego. Potwierdza to niewielka liczba rejestrowanych w nich publikacji i znikomy procent umocowań prawnych instytucjonalnej polityki otwartego dostępu. ZASTOSOWANIE PRAKTYCZNE: Wnioski z badań mogą przyczynić się do poprawy stanu polskich repozytoriów instytucjonalnych. Mogą też posłużyć jako punkt wyjścia do dalszych badań systemów repozytoryjnych. ORYGINALNOŚĆ/WARTOŚĆ POZNAWCZA: Podjęcie tematu stanu rejestracji dorobku naukowego w instytucjonalnych repozytoriach jest istotne z uwagi na aktualność zagadnienia otwierania dostępu do publikacji naukowych oraz w szerszym zakresie – otwierania nauki.

PURPOSE/THESIS: This article presents the results of research on the current level of development of institutional repositories of Polish universities. The author has focused on the state of registration of research activity and on the legal acts which regulate the repositories’ operation / activities. The purpose of the research was to determine the level of openness of Polish scientific publications. APPROACH/METHODS: The author examined a number of resources in various systems registering the scientific achievements of academic staff (repositories, Theses and Dissertations Archive (APD) and bibliographies of employee publications). She studied the information made available on the websites of these systems, libraries and universities responsible for their management, and of other institutions and organizations supporting open science in Poland. The author complemented the empirical research with critical analysis of the literature of the subject. RESULTS AND CONCLUSIONS: The research have shown that the institutional repositories of Polish universities do not fulfill their tasks to a sufficient degree, and that the pace at which they develop is slower than had been expected. This is evidenced by the small number of publications registered in the repositories and the inadequate number of institutional open access mandate. Practical implications: Conclusions drawn in the study may contribute to improving of the condition of Polish institutional repositories. They can also serve as a starting point for further research on repositories. ORIGINALITY/VALUE: Taking on the subject of the state of registration of scientific achievements in institutional repositories is important owing to the topicality of the issue of opening access to scientific publications and, more generally, of the opening of science.
