In order to locate copies of the works of Jean Emmanuel Gilibert (1741–1814) located in Poland, 54 libraries were selected for inquiry, chosen on the basis of their history or of the nature or size of their collections. So far, 27 libraries have responded to the inquiry. There are works of J.E. Gilibert stored in 14 of them. To date, 102 copies of different editions catalogued under Gilibert’s name have been recorded in libraries in Poland. These books were placed in these libraries in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, mainly as part of donations from private libraries. In Poland, the reception of the botanical works of J.E. Gilibert changed over time. Initially they were accepted uncritically (Stanisław Bonifacy Jundziłł, Józef Jundziłł). Over time, and with the increase in floristic data subsequent to the publication of Gilibert’s works, his treatises were cited less frequently. As early as the second half of the nineteenth century, Polish botanists mentioned them only occasionally. More accurate works, containing newer taxonomical considerations of species, effectively supplanted the works of Gilibert in scientific circulation. It is worth noting that for contemporary plant taxonomy, the botanical works of Gilibert are of no scientific value. Four of them (Flora lituanica inchoata, Exercitium botanicum, Caroli Linnaei botanicorum principis, Exercitia phytologica) are listed in Appendix V, ‘Opera Utique Oppressa’, of the 2006 Vienna Code of Botanical Nomenclature. Names appearing in these works in the rankings specified at the end of each listing (species and intraspecific taxa) are not accepted as valid.

The author discusses an idea of a program for the preservation of digital resources stored in Polish libraries. The program in question incorporates all most important standards for long-term preservation prepared and recommended by memory institutions from the countries well advanced in such preservation activities and reflects capabilities and current situation of Polish libraries. It is designed as a hypothetical scenario of activities performed by Polish libraries in order to secure a long-term accessibility of Polish digital resources.

W artykule przedstawiono propozycję programu ochrony zasobów cyfrowych zgromadzonych w polskich instytucjach bibliotecznych. Uwzględniono w niej najistotniejsze normy i standardy długoterminowej archiwizacji wypracowane i rekomendowane przez instytucje pamięci krajów zaawansowanych w działaniach archiwizacyjnych. Odniesiono się również do możliwości i warunków polskich instytucji bibliotecznych. Program ma charakter hipotetycznego scenariusza przystąpienia polskich bibliotek do działań na rzecz zapewnienia długoterminowej użyteczności polskich zasobów cyfrowych.

Awareness of Linked Open Data Among the Employees of Polish Libraries, Archives, and Museums. Results of a Survey – Pilot Study

Purpose/Thesis: This article presents the results of a survey conducted in January 2021 among employees of Polish libraries, museums, and archives, examining their awareness of open linked data technologies. The research had a pilot character and its results will be used to improve the questionnaire and to conduct research on a wider scale. Approach/Methods: The survey method was used in the study. Results and conclusions: On the basis of answers received, it can be concluded that open linked data is not yet very well-known among employees of Polish libraries, museums, and archives. Those most aware of technologies allowing for machine understanding of content shared on the Web are doctorate degree-holders employed in research libraries. Furthermore, awareness of the projects using LOD technologies does not correlate with awareness of these technological solutions. Research limitations: The number of respondents (415) constitutes 1% of all the people employed in libraries, archives, and museums in Poland (based on data provided by the Central Statistical Office of Poland). This is not a large number, but considering the variety among the respondents, the sample can be considered representative. Originality/Value: The awareness of Linked Open Data among employees of Polish libraries, archives, and museums has not been the subject of any study so far. In fact, this type of research has not been conducted in other countries either.

Cel/Teza: Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie wyników ankiety przeprowadzonej w styczniu 2021 r. wśród pracowników polskich bibliotek, muzeów i archiwów, badającej ich świadomość w zakresie technologii open linked data. Koncepcja/Metody badań: Do badania wykorzystano metodę anonimowej ankiety. Wyniki i wnioski: Na podstawie uzyskanych odpowiedzi można stwierdzić, że zagadnienie Linked Open Data nie jest jeszcze zbyt popularne wśród pracowników polskich bibliotek, muzeów i archiwów. Najbardziej świadome istnienia technologii pozwalających na maszynowe rozumienie treści udostępnianych w sieci są osoby z tytułem doktora pracujące w bibliotekach naukowych. Ponadto znajomość projektów wykorzystujących technologie LOD nie koreluje ze znajomością istnienia takich rozwiązań technologicznych. Ograniczenia badawcze: W badaniu wzięło udział 415 respondentów, co stanowi 1% wszystkich osób zatrudnionych na danych stanowiskach w Polsce (na podstawie GUS). Nie jest to duża liczba, ale ze względu na jej zróżnicowanie można ją uznać za reprezentatywną. Oryginalność/Wartość poznawcza: Badanie świadomości Linked Open Data wśród pracowników polskich bibliotek, archiwów i muzeów nie było do tej pory przedmiotem żadnego opracowania. Zresztą tego typu badań brakuje również w innych krajach.

The author discusses the results of 2009 research on electronic resources of Polish libraries. The research was focused on defining the state of electronic resources collected in traditional and digital libraries and evaluating the awareness and attitudes of Polish electronic resources library managers towards the issue of long-term preservation of resources in question. Finally, the author analyzes conclusions reached as a result of conversations with Poznań Supercomputing and Networking Center employees on long-term preservation of electronic library resources.

W artykule przedstawiono wyniki badań przeprowadzonych w 2009 roku, dotyczących zasobów elektronicznych polskich instytucji bibliotecznych. Celem tych badań było ustalenie, w jakiej kondycji są materiały elektroniczne zgromadzone w bibliotekach tradycyjnych i cyfrowych oraz jaki jest poziom świadomości i nastawienie przedstawicieli polskich instytucji tworzących, gromadzących i zarządzających polskimi bibliotecznymi zasobami elektronicznymi odnośnie do kwestii zabezpieczenia ich długoterminowej użyteczności. Omówiono również wnioski z rozmów na temat zapewnienia długoterminowej archiwizacji elektronicznych zasobów bibliotecznych z pracownikami Poznańskiego Centrum Superkomputerowo-Sieciowego.
