The purpose of the work was translation from Latin into the Polish language of cosmetic recipies featured in the Polish pharmaceutical manual by Jan Podbielski and Marian Rostafiński (Warszawa, 1932) and compiling a list of substances named in the recipies. Translation of particular recipies was made on the basis of the Leksykon synonimów farmaceutycznych w językach łacińskim, niemieckim, francuskim, polskim i rosyjskim [Lexicon of pharmaceutical synonyms in latin, german, French, Polish and Russian] by Wiorogórski and Zajączkowski (2 volumes, Warszawa,1892-1918). I managed to identify the names of materials and preparations. Footnotes describing less known materials and cosmetic substances, as well as the list of preparations not in use nowadays (or used only sporadically) were made on the basis of specialist writings, i.a. Leksykon surowców kosmetycznych [Lexicon of cosmetic materials] by J. Arct (Warszawa, 2010), Toksykologia [Toxicology] by J. Brandys (Kraków, 1999), Zarys chemii kosmetycznej [Outline of cosmetic chemistry] by W. Malinka (Wrocław, 1999), etc.
