In this communication I plan to analyze the relationship between the Portuguese language and the foreign languages in the Emperor of Brazil’s translations. This is one of the projects developed by NUPROC of UFSC. The process documents are made up of manuscripts of translations from various languages made by the Emperor, letters exchanged throughout his life with many European and American intellectuals and pages of his diaries that provide relevant information about his intellectual activity, not only translation. Although many biographies bring the information of this activity in his life, any research group to date had been working on a thorough analysis of his manuscripts, that are now at the Historical Archive in the Petrópolis Museum. This research has been supported by CNPq and has received prominence in the Brazilian national press.

The article deals with the diachronic analysis of double verb participles in Portuguese. The purpose of the work is to analyze the use of two participles of the selected verbs in the evolution of the Portuguese language from the 13th century to the present. The research is based on two linguistic corpora: www.corpusdoportugues.org and CETEMPúblico.

This article aims at exploring (ir)regularities in the external history of Portuguese translations of Polish literature published in Portugal between 1855 and 2010. Firstly, the state of the art of research on the Portuguese translations of Polish literature is elucidated. Secondly, the results of analysis, guided by six main questions (what is translated, when, by whom, where, how and why?), are presented. Lastly, future research avenues are indicated.

This study deals with confusion of the diphthongs /ow/ and /oj/ in the evolution of European Portuguese. These two diphthongs have different etymologies, but in ancient Portuguese they begin to be confused. We analyzed selected words containing these diphthongs in the diachronic corpus www.corpusdoportugues.org. The results of this analysis showed that the final form of the word depends on its phonological structure: in words with the final back vowels /o/ and /u/, the diphthong /ow/ predominates, and in words ending in a central or central back vowel, /ɐ/ or /ɨ/, the clearly preferred diphthong is /oj/.

The aim of this study is to compare the temporal system of the Polish and Portuguese language that is to indicate common and distinguishing features between two above mentioned systems. Therefore firstly it shall be considered how both systems are functioning, secondly the most fundamental criteria of such comparison shall be established. Finally an analysis of temporal values of the particular verbal forms shall be conducted. Furthermore the purpose of this study is to compare means of expression of the temporal category in Polish with means of expression of the temporal category in Portuguese. As a result the study indicated that the temporal category together with category of aspect form interconnected grammatical categories which meet on the functional basis. While in Portuguese time and aspect are expressed by morphemes cumulating both functions, Polish has different means of expression of each of these categories. The study enabled to formulate conclusions regarding similarities and differences between both systems as well as to indicate specific features which emphasize uniqueness of each analyzed system.
