Przedstawiono wyniki szacunku produktu krajowego i dochodu narodowego netto za lata 2000-2002. Próbę takiego wstępnego szacunku podjęto w Zakładzie Badań Statystyczno-Ekonomicznych GUS i PAN.
Ważną rolę w badaniu zjawisk ekonomicznych odgrywają analizy i diagnozy dotyczące struktur ekonomicznych.
The aim of this article is to present relationship between GDP fluctuations and changes in unemployment rate in the United States, the United Kingdom, France and the Netherlands in times of Global Financial Crisis against the long-term trends. Taking the Okun's Law as a starting point, the first part of the article describes the relationship between GDP and unemployment in developed economies, referring to historical developments and economic literature. The analysis conducted in empirical part proves, that GDP fluctuations in times of Global Economic Crisis exerted a greater influence on unemployment volatility than in periods of moderate or rapid economic growth. It is noticeable that the relative surge in unemployment in the US is considerably higher than in examined EU countries. It appears that the factors underlying the strength of relationship between GDP and unemployment rate in crisis are: the type of shock that caused the recession, the design of labour market institutions and discretionary policies adopted in times of crisis
Samuelson and Nordhaus (2012: 436) claim that "There is no pattern in the type formulas, the trajectory of the planets or swing of the pendulum, which would be used to predict the duration and timing of business cycles. Rather, they resemble a change in the weather". Nogalski and Klimek showed that in the years 1995-2010, the Polish GDP was forming in a way that made it possible to describe it using a mathematical formula (2015: 302-305). Having done further research, the authors are trying to establish whether Samuelson and Nordhaus are right. In their search for the answer, they conducted research on the "rhythm" of the world economy, European economy and that of several European states, including Poland, basing on the World Bank (WB) data for the years 1983-2013. The paper presents the results of these studies and the results of the analysis of the development of the Polish GDP based on the Central Statistical Office (CSO) data for the years 1995-2014.(original abstract)

The article presents published by the Central Statistical Office (since 2013), quick estimates of quarterly GDP prepared on the basis of a limited set of information available within a short time after the end of the test period (which complements the still published standard preliminary quarterly estimates of GDP and its components). The projects undertaken by the Polish public statistics both organizational and methodological aim raising the standards of quality flash estimates of quarterly GDP and discusses research on methods for calculating them. There has also been a flash estimate of international comparison of quarterly GDP on the example of the Netherlands, Germany, the United States, Great Britain and Italy. (original abstract)

The article describes the use of functional GDP principal components analysis from the exploratory point of view. This analysis is designed to show the variation in the entire sample, not only discrete observations. This is a technique that is often used as an introduction (e.g., dimensionality reduction and data visualization) for further analysis. This approach emphasizes the significant characteristics of associated statistically data sets and provides useful tools for statistical analysis of economic data sets. The study concerns the GDP per capita in Poland. The results showed that the two main functional components explain 98,64% of the variation. This means that the presented visualization and interpretation of the results is reliable. (original abstract)
Artykuł stanowi przyczynek do dyskusji nad koniecznością zmiany modelu gospodarczego Polski na model wykorzystujący wiedzę i innowacje jako czynniki rozwoju odgrywające zasadniczą rolę w warunkach zglobalizowanej gospodarki światowej oraz przyczyniające się do szybkiego postępu technicznego. Kwestia ta jest rozpatrywana w kontekście zdolności gospodarki narodowej do uniknięcia zagrożeń mogących prowadzić do długookresowego osłabienia dynamiki wzrostu gospodarczego, oznaczającego wejście kraju w tzw. pułapkę średniego dochodu. The article is a contribution to the discussion on the necessity to change the current model of economic growth of Poland for model of economy based on knowledge and innovation. In this way, our country will be able to overcome the threats that might push the economy into the trap of the average income, expressed in long-term slowdown in GDP growth. The endogenous growth theory, formed after 1989 and characterized by duplication of Western technology, enabled relatively rapid growth by over 20 years. Currently, Poland to ensure an economic growth is facing the need for innovative technologies and innovation. Risks associated with middle income trap are very real because of the disappearance of comparative advantage, which results from relatively low labor costs. The creation in Poland conditions to accelerate economic growth requires action to increase the propensity of entrepreneurs to reach for new technologies and innovation and attractive market offer from the national centers for research and development. The changes in the exchange rates have a significant impact on the increase of the national income and total balance sheets: the current balance of payments and the state budget. In 2005 the change in the PLN/EURO exchange rate, as compared with the previous year, was the greatest change in the period of 2000—2005. In the article the ex post method was used, taking into account the real changes in the exchange rates in a given year, contrary to the most frequently used ex ante methods. These are direct results for particular elements of the national economy and income depending on the level of the imports and exports and their branch structure. Moreover, the indirect results were also calculated for the exchange rates changes originating from the use of flows and outflows of the direct consumers cash, as multiplying effects, assuming that the reaction to the increase and fall in demand will occur after 2,5 months time. The exchange rates changes have the strongest influence on the current balance of payments and on the balance of the state budget.
Development of knowledge-intensive high-technology services in the EU economies were assessed in the paper. There was also presented analysis of relationships between development of the sector and level of GDP p.c. As a result of the research there were made some conclusions stressing both: the role of the high-tech KIS for increase of welfare as well as the influence of inter-sectoral transfer of knowledge.
Kolejna część pracy to już bezpośrednie nawiązanie do tematu, a więc charakterystyka tempa wzrostu gospodarczego państw Unii Europejskiej wzbogacona o dane pochodzące z Eurostatu.

This paper aims to examine if polish economy is able to achieve a comparable rate of economic growth as EU leaders. The first part of the paper - theoretical - is an introduction to the topic of economic growth and development. It contains definitions of Polish and foreign economists and describes economic growth measures. There will also appear examples of European and world leaders in terms of GDP metric. The next part of the work - practical - will show economic growth rate of all EU countries, enriched with data from Eurostat. There will be presented GDP and GDP per capita, as well as the position of Poland against the leaders results. This part is also an attempt to answer the question if it is possible to reach the rate of leaders, and if so - when can this happen?(original abstract)

The article analyses the dynamics and structure of agricultural expenditure in Polish state budgets in 1995-2020, which is the basis for considerations on the relationship between budget expenditure on agriculture and the dynamics of GDP and the dynamics of the state budget. The analysis concerned both nominal values and values adjusted by the CPI inflation index. In the pre-accession period (1995-2003) real spending on agriculture, excluding subsidies to ASIF, showed a downward trend. The situation changed after Poland's accession to the European Union. In 2004-2009, there was a rapid increase in the total agricultural budget (including national and EU funds) and a change in its structure towards pro-development goals. At the same time, agricultural budget expenditure became largely dependent on European funds. Since 2009, a stabilisation of real spending on agriculture can be observed, and between 2015 and 2019 even a slight downward trend, with a renewed increase in redistributive objectives in the spending on agriculture and rural areas. The Polish agriculture benefited unevenly from the effects of economic growth recorded between 1995 and 2020. However, taking into account only development expenditure on agriculture (excluding social expenditure, or ASIF), above-average benefits of the analysed sector are observed. Moreover, the average growth rate of total agricultural budget expenditure (including domestic and EU funds), was slightly higher than the growth rate of state budget expenditure.

Using structural vector autoregression model (SVAR), the author compared the efficiency of various categories of government expenditure in boosting economic activity in Poland. The empirical analysis, covering the period of 2002-2017, was made on quarterly data. The results of the examination show that, in line with theoretical premises, the strongest and long-lasting effect on GDP is provided by investment-type government spending. On the other hand, none of the analysed categories of current government expenditures significantly influences the aggregate economic activity. There is no evidence of significant differences in the effectiveness of various categories of current government spending as regards their impact on aggregate economic activity.

The aim of this paper is to analyse the impact of financial components of foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows on economic growth in Poland in the years 2004-2018, with special emphasis on the role of reinvestment of earnings. The following hypothesis has been put forward: As FDI inflows into Poland and enters the successive stages of its profitability life cycle, impact of equity on economic growth decreases, while the importance of reinvestment of earnings rises. In order to verify the hypothesis, the VECM model was used, supplemented with an extended reaction analysis. The research results confirm that among FDI components, mainly equities and reinvestment of earnings have a significant impact on GDP changes. In the short term, the inflow of equity has the most important impact on economic growth. In the long-time, the importance of equity decreases, while the importance of reinvestment of earnings rises.
Natomiast kraje, w których zaobserwowano tendencje dywergencyjne (Cypr i Malta), ujawniają znacznie większy wpływ tradycyjnych czynników wzrostu gospodarczego (tj. wzrostu liczby ludności i akumulacji kapitału). W pracy zastosowano metody ekonometryczne, w szczególności przekrojowe i panelowe regresje wzrostu.

In the period 1996-2017 there was a significant progress in reducing income disparities between the new member countries of the EU (EU-13) and the old EU member states (EU-15). The successes of individual new EU members in overcoming their income distance to Western Europe were diversified. It can be assumed that the catching-up process depends on the differentiated set of GDP per capita determinants. The main purpose of this paper is to verify this hypothesis. The examination confirms that the growth of GDP per capita in the countries that have diminished their income gap to the greatest extent (Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Poland, and Slovakia) was mainly shaped by their human capital resources, the degree of technological advancement of exports and quality of institutions, while the countries where divergence tendencies were observed (Cyprus, Malta) revealed much stronger influence of traditional growth factors (population growth, capital accumulation). The study uses econometric methods, especially cross-sectional and panel growth regression models.
This paper reviews the reasons for and impacts of quantitative easing by the Bank of England. It analyses the macroeconomic impacts of this policy tool on the UK economy across the period 2008-16. It compares the impacts of each round of quantitative easing to assess how the impacts changed over time. The authors implemented econometric analysis based on the VAR model. This analysis indicated that the Bank of England's monetary policy influenced GDP growth by a relatively small degree during the period studied. The impact of changes in the monetary base (M3) explained a bigger part of GDP growth than the decreases in interest rates and exchange rates. Over time the impact of this policy response diminished. Today, a particularly important role in the functioning and development of enterprises plays innovation. This is understood as the ability to create innovative space capable to the creation and diffusion of innovation. Nowadays, a thriving innovation activity is identified with the achievement of business success in the economic arena. With this in mind it is worth exploring the determinants of innovation. It is therefore this article was proposed. The study analyzed the impact of GDP, internal expenditure on R&D and capital expenditures on the size of innovative activities of enterprises located in the sixteen Polish provinces. The research was limited to a period of seven years, i.e. from 2008 to 2014. The aim of this article is therefore to determine the level of significance of some factors influencing the size of innovation activities in Polish enterprises. To achieve the objective the analysis of statistical data was carried out and the panel model calculated by the classical method of least squares was built. Conducted tests will verify three research hypotheses. The software GNU Regression Econometric and Time-Series Library - GRETL was used for calculations.(original abstract)
The aim of this paper is to find out whether financial crisis of 2007-8 has changed the Visegrad Group - V-4 competitiveness position vis-a-vis EU-15. As we know the countries of Central Eastern Europe forming the so called Visegrad group - namely Poland, The Czech republic, Slovakia and Hungary - being since 2004 a new UE members, have been hit by the financial crisis of 2007 to some extend just as well as the old EU or EU-15 member states. In this paper we would like to investigate and compare how strongly the financial crisis have impacted the two set of countries or the two groups of EU members - old and new, when measured by their respective macroeconomic performance indicators of competitiveness as well as by the RCA indicators of international competitiveness position and trends in it since that time. By the changes in competitiveness position on macro level we understand changes in "magic quadrangle" indicators such as: GDP growth changes, changes in inflation, in unemployment and changes in balances of current accounts. By the RCA positive changes or improvements we understand a growing number of goods or group of goods which contain a high innovative input measured in turn, by high R&D expenditures share in the final value of the exported goods.(original abstract)
The hypothesis of the paper is as follows: there is a significant, from the point of view of the theory and empirical studies, impact of export growth on economic growth in Poland, and it is most likely a two-way relationship. In our research we implemented econometric model VAR. Results of estimation confirmed hypothesis which we formulate in research.(original abstract)
(fragment tekstu)

A comprehensive analysis is important for economic politics. The wavelet analysis has been used to detect discontinuities in analyzed GDP dynamic, where they are non-detectable by other signal analysis tools or invisible. This made possible to distinguish discrete moments of economic dynamic changes. To the most significant change moments in Polish economy belong: fourth quarters 1990 and 1991, the turn of the years 1993-1994, the second half-year 1995, first and fourth quarters 1996, the second quarter 2004, second and fourth quarters 2008.
