Whilst appreciating the role of hypnotic suggestibility in psychotherapy, this paper is concerned with hypnotic phenomena that may be used in conjunction with client centered therapy, which involves the counsellor acting upon the hypothesis that the individual has a sufficient capacity to deal constructively with conscious aspects of his/her life.

The last several decades have ushered in an abundance of creative activity and wisdom with regard to spiritually and/or religiously informed psychotherapy. Most of these pursuits have led to significant and positive changes, both in thought and practice, in the way that human psychology is seen as intersecting (and interacting) with religious, theological, and spiritual dimensions of experience. At the same time much has been neglected amidst these advances. In the present paper, we submit that one vital area of neglect may be found in an implicit retreat from sacred encounter in favor of instrumentalized approaches to psychotherapy. We argue for a spiritually transcendent psychotherapy that implicitly attends to relational and semiotic phenomenology while retaining pragmatic gain.

The thesis is an introduction to a psychology and psychotherapy method called process-oriented psychology or process work created by Arnold Mindell in the 70s of the 19th century. The author discusses the historical development of the method and its links with Taoist philosophy and C.G. Jung’s psychology. The basic ideas of the process work, the method of therapeutic work and its areas of operation are also presented. Also discussed was the issue of metaskills in the workshop of a therapist. The overview on the process-oriented psychotherapy focuses on the presentation of the way of thinking about the man and the world, which constitutes the basis for a therapist’s actions.

The article scrutinizes a concept of psychological re-adaptation of special police unit officers as part of psychological rehabilitation in the post-conflict period and schematically shows the structure of psychological rehabilitation, the essence of social-psychological and psycho-pedagogical activities. The author believes that it is psychological re-adaptation that should be used to support the officers of special police units without mental disorders after their return from conflict zones. Their psychological problems may evolve from the secondary stress of peaceful life caused by lack of understanding between them and their close environment, lack of willingness to adjust to the customs and requirements of peaceful life as well as a lack of ability to adequately apply their newly acquired skills and knowledge. The drive of self-actualization and loss of motivation for personal meaning arising out of their usual life style and conditions are considered to be the main mechanisms having the most significant impact on the successful outcome of psychological re-adaptation of special police unit officers in the Russian Federation during a post-conflict period. Psychological rehabilitation includes physical exercises, business games and training of social-psychological and psycho-pedagogical orientation, with elements of independent work (self re-adaptation), as well as group and individual psycho-correctional work, coaching, and various methods of self-regulation. These techniques for the post-conflict period psychological rehabilitation are included in the Program of psychological re-adaptation and self re-adaptation of special police unit officers in the Russian Federation during a post-conflict period.

This article presents basic theoretical and methodological assumptions on the use of bibliotherapy (with the use of biblical texts and modern literature) in individual therapy and support groups of women struggling with infertility. Bibliotherapy as an agent that supports the therapeutic process, not only allows infertile to gain insight into the current life situation, but also to relieve suppressed and unconscious emotions and, finally, to give the patient’s own infertility a unitary meaning, devoid of superficial schemes and external influences.

The article is a result of the discussion between the sociologists and professional psychotherapist. The authors’ aim is to consider therapeutic functions of biographical interviewing with reference to professional psychological treatment assumptions. Therapeutic aspects of the narrator– scientist encounter are especially important in the research on traumatic collective and individual experiences (such as wars, exile, disability, poverty, etc.), when informants recall painful memories or talk about the distressing present. In the article, the issues of scientific and psychological treatment aims are discussed, as well as problems regarding the relationship between narrator–patient and researcher–therapist, and professional skills in the area of biographical interviewing and psychotherapy. Also, the authors consider potential advisability of “therapeutic” interventions undertaken by a researcher in the sociological interview course in the context of ethical principles and their presumable impact on narrators’ biographical and identity work resulting from the participation in the interview. The in-depth biographical interviews and narrative interviews collected in the project “Institutionalized identity? The processes of identity development on the basis of biographies rendered by adults raised in residential care,” Lodz, Poland 2011-2013” will provide the empirical background for our considerations.

Artykuł stanowi rezultat dyskusji między socjolożką a zawodowym psychoterapeutą. Celem autorów jest rozważenie terapeutycznych funkcji wywiadu biograficznego w odniesieniu do założeń profesjonalnej terapii psychologicznej. Terapeutyczne aspekty spotkania badacz–narrator mają szczególne znaczenie w przypadku przedsięwzięć badawczych, niejako „z założenia” uruchamiających traumatyczne wspomnienia lub refleksję nad aktualnym doświadczeniem badanych (np. biografie wojenne, uchodźców, osób wykluczonych i zagrożonych wykluczeniem społecznym, osób ciężko chorych i niepełnosprawnych).
