This article describes the concept of logistics, its historical development, the legal and normative base that regulates this sector and its processes in Latvia, and the economic nature and functions associated with primary and secondary production. Logistics processes and methods have a significant role in the development of Latvia's primary and secondary agricultural sphere because with an efficient logistics system it is possible to reduce production and transportation costs, improve the quality of goods and ensure competitiveness in the market. Several agricultural production and processing enterprises in Latvia have started to form their own logistics systems. One of the most successful is 'SIA Latvija audzetu darzenu logistika' (Logistics for vegetables grown in Latvia).
