The success in contemporary economy relies on the company's competitiveness, its fast development and the implementing of new technologies. The development of a knowledge-based economy requires appropriate human resources. Economic growth necessitates the enhancement of the quality of human capital through training, continuing education and the development of employees. The objective of this chapter is to highlight the demand for jobs, skills and competencies in the Podlaskie province, through the analysis in terms of jobs required by employers of qualifications and competences, and analyze the causes of the mismatch of supply, particularly among university graduates. Job analysis has emerged a list of key competencies, personality traits, the formal and additional courses. Quantitative research conducted in a group of employers pointed to the missing graduates of various fields of study skills. They show that the greatest "weakness" of graduates is the lack of practice, which can be reduced only by a larger number of practices and student internships.

A factor which conditions correct functioning of the health care system in a country is a number and quality of the system's medical staff. Nurses play crucial role in this professional group. The aim of this research was to demonstrate a relationship between professional satisfaction and human resources development in nursing. The research was performed with the method of diagnostic survey using anonymous questionnaires designed by the author. The test sample was chosen randomly from nurses employed in two medical centres in Bełchatów. In total, 150 people were examined. Basing on the performed survey a conclusion was made that management process influences professional satisfaction and human resources development in nursing.
