W artykule przedstawiono autorski pogląd na historię i współczesną sytuację rosyjskiego wywiadu wojskowego, znanego szerzejpod akronimem GRU. Autor przedstawia rosyjski wywiad wojskowy od momentu przejęcia władzy w Rosji przez partię bolszewicką pod kierownictwem Włodzimierza Lenina do czasów współczesnych. Celem artykułu jest przybliżenie Czytelnikowi wiedzy na temat jego historii, osiągnięć i porażek. Wpisują się w nią również Polacy, ci wymienieni w tekście, czy inni, jak np. Bronisław Owsianko, Mieczysław Łoganowski, Roman Łągwa czy Karol Świerczewski. Drugim celem przyświęcającym autorowi było odmitologizowanie GRU, którego historia w Polsce jest znana głównie z książek Wiktora Suworowa (Riezuna), defektora z GRU. Nawet wydana w Polsce na początku lat 90. XX w. książka Pierr'a de Villemaresta pt. GRU. Sowiecki superwywiad 1918-1988, mimo swoich wad i niedoskonałości, nie miała wpływu na postrzeganie GRU we właściwych kategoriach, szczególnie przez publicystów zajmujących się tym zagadnieniem.

The article presents the author’s view of the history and contemporary situation of the Russian military intelligence, widely known under the acronym of the GRU. The author presents the Russian military intelligence since the seizure of power by the Bolshevik Party under the leadership of Vladimir Lenin until modern times. The aim of the paper is to show its history, achievements and failures. Also Poles are a part of this history, those mentioned in the text, as well as others, such as Bronisław Owsianko, Mieczysław Łoganowski, Roman Łągwa or Karol Świerczewski. The second aim is to demystify the GRU whose history in Poland is known mainly from the books by the GRU defector, Viktor Suvorov (Rezun). Even the book by Pierre de Villemarest G.R.U. Le Plus Secret Des Services Sovietiques 1918-1988, published in Poland at the beginning of the 1990s, despite its defects and imperfections, have had no effect on the perception of the GRU in the right categories, in particular by journalists dealing with the issue.
