The aim of the article is to examine the image of Methodius as a literary character in the main literary texts of Slovak prose, which are thematically focused on the period of Great Moravia. We work with texts by three authors, namely J. M. Hurban: Svadba kráľa veľkomoravského (1842); M. Ferko: Svätopluk (1975) and Svätopluk a Metod (1985); F. Rábek: Tajomstvo Zoborského kláštora (2019). We use the techniques of text analysis, interpretation and comparison. Using eight criteria, we observe in what ways the mentioned authors’ approaches in a connection to the reflection of Methodius coincide and in what ways they differ. Our attention is focused on the following aspects: the time span of the plot, character traits, character development and psychologization, the relationship between Methodius and Svätopluk, Methodius‘ disputes with the Frankish bishops, the role of Methodius in the spread of Christianity in Bohemia, the role of Methodius in the literary text and intertextuality in a relation to medieval texts. Despite certain differences, a positive character image of Methodius dominates in Slovak prosaic texts – it varies between mythicization, demythicization and glorification. The most plastic portrayal of the character of Methodius can be observed in the novels of M. Ferko. Authors of modern literary texts preserve the idea of Methodius as a saint, which has been handed down since the Middle Ages.

The aim of the article is to present and analyse examples (exempla) in Bl. Boleslawa Lament's Supplement to her rule and constitutions of the Congregation of the Missionary Sisters of the Holy Family. The genre under discussion was particularly popular in the Middle Ages, however it is still used in sermons and didactic literature. The examples are taken mainly from the lives of the saints particularly associated with the spirituality of the Congregation and are inserted in the main text to illustrate the virtues to be practised by the sisters.

Suur Vanker ('the Great Wain' in Estonian, the Big Dipper) is a commonly known constellation in Estonia. In addition to Suur Vanker, the astronym Hunt Harja korval 'Wolf beside the Ox' is one of the oldest written recordings of ethno-astronomic designations. The tale about farmer Peedu and his wagon, formalised and elaborated by Jakob Hurt based on his collections, has been printed in school textbooks since the issuing of Mihkel Kampmann's reading book, Kooli lugemise raamat at the beginning of the previous century. Thus, the story is widely known and has been simultaneously considered an Estonian astral myth.

Seals are one of the specific sources which can be used to study medieval history. The seals of the ecclesiastical institutions and ecclesiastical individuals form an exceptional group in terms of iconography. A necessary condition for their use is first and foremost to make them accessible to professional researchers, to study and analyse them and publish the findings. The following text introduces a few fragmentary sources, the seals of the Church representatives from Spiš dated to the 14th and 15th centuries. The seals of three representatives of the religious orders (Benedictines, Cistercians and the Canons Regular of the Holy Sepulchre) and three priests of the Spiš parishes are presented. The seals were part of four documents made in a privilegial way. The contribution focuses sigillographic and iconographic analysis of the mentioned seals.
