This sketch presents analysis of the names of restaurants in Kraków's Kazimierz district, which were compared to prewar onyms and also to names from the late 1970s. The material used as a basis consists of over 200 names. The history of Kazimierz is presented in the article; it is connected with the history and fate of Krakow's Jews, and that of Kraków. The analysis of contemporary names of restaurants and comparison of them with those before the war shows that the Jewish element reflected in these names is currently much weaker, which may bear witness to the effacement of the connection between that place and its history and culture. In prewar names, the predominant general tendency was toward placing the owner's given name (or its initial) and surname (or vice versa) on the signs. The names of such establishments were poorly represented during the 1970s, because at that time there were in Kazimierz only 3 restaurants and only a few cafes and bars. The meanings contained in the latest names of these establishments relate to the location of the building, are connected with its arrangement and decor, and refer to literary and artistic ambitions. In some names, one can observe tendencies connected with the culture and tradition of the Jews of Kazimierz. Also very perceptible in the collected onyms is the prestige-enhancing function of foreign names.
