The 16th International puppet festival took place on the 3rd - 7th October 2008 in Banska Bystrica. The head of festival was Puppet theatre on Cross-Road. 22 ensembles - 9 ensembles from Slovakia, 6 from Czech Republic, 2 from Hungary and 3 from Poland and foreigners (from France and Italy) took part in this festival. Ensembles played 24 performances (15 were competitive), which were seen by 8000 spectators. Two new sections were set up during the art program - Young Zone that means independent Slovak theatre groups and V4 projects. The further news were: Discussible forum, which was about themes and demonstrations of actual puppet theatre for children and young people, internet newspaper Fest.In (as recovery of 'Festivalovy spravodajca') and project 'Cin a Teen', which means cooperation between elementary and high schools. At present, the international puppet festival in Banska Bystrica is the only professional and competitive puppet art show of Slovak professional theatre and selected puppet theatres from Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary and other invited countries. The goal of the festival is to support development of this individual minority theatre genre and to tie up former traditions of puppet art. The festival is aimed at presentation and confrontation of actual forms and demonstrations of puppet art, including puppet's techniques (theatre of puppets, masks, objects). The festival serves as important platform for mutual inspiration, conversations and critical reflection. The theme of the year 2008 was relation between history and present: Inspiration - Initiation/quotation - Interpretation.
