This article constitutes a continuation of the authoress' earlier paper titled Peasant systems of values as an inspiration for Polish alternative communities ( Wies i Rolnictwo No.3(2006)). The article describes social activity of the rural areas' new settlers. The starting point for a reflection on the character of activities pursued by associations formed by persons who have recently settled in rural areas and the ability of such associations to formulate proposals suiting the needs of local communities is the description of cultural preferences of the inhabitants of villages and small towns who are the addressees of social ventures undertaken by new settlers. Initiatives launched by new settlers form only a part of the social-educational activity that is being developed in rural areas. However, these initiatives have become an object of interest of researchers investigating the phenomenon of migration from urban areas to rural areas. This phenomenon is being examined from various angles, also in the context of development of a new class of rural intelligentsia. The authoress tries to establish whether the arrival of new well educated settlers will actually help shape a different image of rural areas.

The aim of the article is to attempt giving an answer to the question of what the social and civic potential of religious societies, movements and communities consists in. The point of departure is a general characterization of religious organizations and tasks ascribed to them by the Church. They are located in two mutually interpenetrating areas: inside the Church and in the lay reality. Taking into consideration these tasks as well as the perspective determined by understanding and by the tasks of the civil society, five dimensions have been distinguished and analyzed that are connected with the functioning of these organizations in the civil society: a religious character or/and religious inspiration, socially useful activity, a local character, commonness and values, social capital as well as social and civil competences. Analysis of the indicated dimensions reveals a multi-dimensional potential of religious organizations and its basis.

Personal relations and correspondence between Russell and Lutoslawski are presented. The two philosophers were exchanging letters for nearly thirty years. Lutoslawski published some articles in English and Russell read them. Lutoslawski also knew several of Russell's publications, and he thought favorably of them. Despite deep philosophical differences between the two, each respected and studied the views of the other. In his letters Russell tended to emphasize the differences between their general opinions and philosophical approaches. Lutoslawski, on the other hand, highlighted similarities. As a result, although they had a lot in common, eg. dedication to social activity and education, a serious discussion between them was impossible due to messianic views of Lutoslawski and his metaphysics of eleuterism. Russell could not share such opinions. But he was glad to learn that Lutoslawski was impressed by his History of Western Philosophy, a book which met with much criticism.

Leisure activities are always involved in the social context. The study of preferred ways of spending free time academic youth is justified because the processes occurring among young people are symptomatic of broader social phenomena. In leisure activities is a reflection of attitudes, interests, and values that are important to people. The future belongs to the youth, the youth sets the tone for the present, discovers and promotes new ways of spending free time. Increasingly negative scenarios are written according to which the future of young people and whole societies in leisure time will be marked by individualism and infantilism. Did university students experiencing leisure time in a conscious and mature?

The main purpose of this publication is to present reflections on the preparation process which is offered for social workers and volunteers in social service and social work fields. The range of analysis includes mainly areas of such qualities as ethos and morale and to a lesser degree knowledge and methodic skills of workers. Knowledge and methodic skills of social work are important in work focused on creating positive human qualities, however, prior to knowledge and methodic skills, come behavioral patterns, examples and values that shape social worker's personality. Involvement of human forces present in social worker's partners requires not only professional competence but personal qualities such as awareness of the work's ethos, values and behavioral patterns that promote sensitivity, empathy, acceptance and compassion. Although there are many educational offers focused on training social workers there is no program focused on preparation to upbringing to social activity, upbringing to social service and upbringing to social work. We need this kind of offer, because knowledge and social work skills alone are not enough in social work.

The article continues in the research of presidential elections 2014 in the Church media. The author is asking, how the identified state is perceived by readers of the weekly Catholic news. This research problem is solved by the quantitative- qualitative questionnaire method oriented on active readers. The author analyses the results at two levels: firstly, the readers were asked to evaluate the election supplement; secondly, they evaluated general doing of the newspaper in connection with all election forms. She offers her conclusions related to attitudes of the readers dependent of their age, education, readers’ and electors’ activity. She also notes that the active readers who are more unsatisfied with the present state (concretely with the supplement and specifically with the approach to the elections) are mostly men, younger and more educated people, and city dwellers. These are calling for competent opinion genres (analyses and columns, including columns written by Church authorities) and for bigger courage, openness and directness of the editorial team. In the context of previous foreign and domestic researches, the author points out the existence of space for an opinion-making, socially active Church medium that is able to fully accept the concrete and unequivocal character of journalistic style of expression in order to attract the attention of younger members of potential audiences.
