This article is an analysis of one of the first Spanish neo-realist films which also contains numerous elements of black cinema. First of all, we have shown the role of this picture in the Spanish post-Civil War cinema and afterwards demonstrated why and how the director used the aesthetics of film noir. For this purpose we have analyzed in Furrows such black elements as the appearance of criminal, misogynistic and violent characters, opressive atmosphere of dark and claustrophobic Madrid city and destructive women. However, we have also tried to explain the lack of some typical components of this kind of cinema such as the presence of a seductive femme fatale, hard-boiled detective or omnipresent ambiguity. This absence is a distinctive feature of all Spanish black films.
