Presented article is a short resume of the history of researches which were carried out by Polish scientists on Stanislaw Staszic life before WW II. Their 19th century predecessors have established the basic facts from the great man career but still there were a lot of ambiguities in this subject. They studied the problem and tried to explain several inconsistencies in the popular opinions about S. Staszic achievements. These works were conducted with varying success and dedication. An increase of interest in discovering the whole range of S. Staszic credits for Polish economy and industry was noticeable in the jubilee year (1926). The anniversary of hero's death became an impulse to make a good progress in discussed question. The most important problem which was settled then was an authorship of the S. Staszic diary. Thanks to Czeslaw Lesniewski discovery the scientists came to an agreement that only one part of these memoirs were written by him. Another interesting matter for which the scholars from the first half of 20th century are held in high regard is changing the nation's attitude toward S. Staszic. In the previous time he was perceived almost as a saint, not a great politician or economist. The works of Cz. Lesniewski and other historians made possible to appreciate the true value of Stanislaw Staszic achievements.
